Phosphorian Caves

The phosphorian caves is a huge cave system located far beneath Tropacia. It is accessible through many cave entrances along the south of the island country. It is characterised by an abundance of glowing mushrooms, plants and animals. The phosphor radiation mutated all the plants and animals in the caves, allowing them to glow in the dark.

Geography

The caves can be entered through a few entrances, most of which are through the mountainous parts of the rainforest. These entrances lead a steep path down through boiling hot tunnels, which are full of dangerous stalactites and stalagmites, with dripping water and small streams that seem to generate from weepingstone mixed in veins in the rocks.
Once you are deep into the caves, the temperature drops to a cool condition. Inside the main cave system accessed by the tunnels are large dens, lots of small puddles full of crystal clear water dot the ground. Many, larger stalactites and stalagmites exist in the den of the caves, and some have even formed large pillars. The biggest dens of the caves can reach up to 50 metres from the floor to the roof.

Ecosystem

The Phosphorian Caves has one of the most unique ecosystems on the planet. All of the plant and animal life are susceptible to the phosphor radiation, which turned them a neon colour, and turned them bioluminescent, meaning they glow when in dark areas, or in this case, all the time in the caves. This creates a beautiful atmosphere in the caves, and is one of the most recommended places to visit.

Fauna & Flora

The fauna and flora in the caves are incredible; every single species, from the insects and mammals, to the mushrooms and plants, are bioluminescent. They typically glow blues, purples, pinks and greens, but other colours have been seldom spotted, like reds, oranges and yellows.

Prehensile mushrooms

Prehensile mushrooms are a group of mushrooms common in these particular caves. These mushrooms have the longest stems of any mushroom species, growing from the ceilings downwards. Some of these mushroom species includes arrin's glowshroom, a bright purple and blue mushroom with a bulbous cap and petal like gills, fourspot stoplight mushroom, the biggest prehensile mushroom species with 3 caps on a single stem, each cap being a different colour, red, amber and green, and the singing cap, a small prehensile mushroom which, when shaken, produces a harmonious sound similar to someone singing.

Mammals

Few mammals live in the phosphorian caves. These mammals are small, and they prey on the insect species. These mmamals are all hairless, as to not trap moisture and keep them too warm. They make small nests in the large mushroom gills, where they can hide from any potential predators.

Reptiles

Reptiles, along with amphibians, are the most common family of creatures in the caves. Most of the reptiles in the caves are semi-aquatic or aquatic, such as the phosphin, a small freshwater turtle species that dwell in the lakes, and basking on the dry-ish land.

Amphibians

Amphibians are one of the most common groups of creatures in the caves. There are few species however, but they are all very common, filling the lakes and streams in the caves. They feast on the insect species that fly around in the caves.
