Oologooloo Tree

The Oologooloo Tree is a fairytale based on the real-life Oologooloo Tree, which sits in the Jovimartian Asteroid Belt. The tree had existed in this asteroid belt for thirty thousand years before being set alight by a small group of martians.

The tree has featured in both jovian and martian folklore since they both ventured into space, since the tree is found in the asteroid belt between the two planets. The tree was treated as a beacon for the longest time - its reflective leaves and petals give it lots of attention in the inky black darkness of space.

Historical Significance

The origin of the tree is unknown - the species is Aberyllum lasticum, a native deciduous tree of Griez. How a tree that normally requires an atmosphere managed to survive in space for thousands of years more than their normal lifespan (of two hundred years), but it certainly raised a few eyebrows in the scientific community.

Thanks to its unusual location, martians and jovians noted the existence of the tree, and gradually talks spread throughout their respective planets. The tree was given a name, the "oologooloo tree", which translates to the "perplexing tree tree" in joland.

The oologoloo tree became a children's fairytale, as the story carries the message that no matter what is thrown at you, you can make something of yourself and you can thrive.

Unfortunately, the oologooloo came to an end two hundred years ago, when a group of rebellious martians set the tree alight. Seemingly as a prank gone wrong, the entire tree went up in flames and now the only proof of its existence lies in the memories of this fairytale. And photos, which can be found all across Utopia, particularly on websites that share aesthetic space scenery photos.
