Marrow Kelp

One of the most common organisms in the Veins of Norrab, marrow kelp are an intriguing species. They are the largest growing kelp species on Norrab, both in their territory and in their size. Marrow kelp also possess magical capabilities, able to regrow fractured and fallen parts almost instantly.

Their healing abilities have been intensely studied by abyssal merfolk research facilities, set up round the globe to examine life in the Veins.

Anatomy

Marrow kelp are easily spotted thanks to their bone-white stipes. The leaves of marrow kelp are a darker red, with blood-red veins running up and down the stipe. The kelp typically grows around three metres before leaves become visible - leaves themselves can grow up to three metres in length. Adult kelp generally reach about fifty to a thousand metres in length.

While marrow kelp are not classified as an inanimal, they do have magical abilities. Marrow kelp can rapidly replace any cell in their body through magical fission. Magical fission is how inanimals reproduce; marrow kelp lack μRNA, something inanimals all possess.

Habitat

Marrow kelp grow across the globe within the Veins of Norrab. These trenches reach thousands of metres below the seabed. In certain locations marrow kelp dominates all other lifeforms, especially plant species. They grow on the sides of rock faces, their holdfasts digging several metres through solid stone.
