Blood Frog Disease

Blood frog disease is a dangerous disease common in the Sarabar Swamp. It is caused by the tiny Blood Frog, whom lays eggs in people's blood, and the hatchlings feed on the host's blood.   The resident tribes in the swamps, the Aar-Aori, fear this condition more than they hate harmonids, and they are notorious harmonid haters. This condition has taken over entire settlements, wreaking havoc and destroying populations of Aar-Aori. Myths dating back thousands of years depict the people burning blood frogs at stakes, with rituals centered around the killing of these frogs that cause such horrific deaths.

Transmission & Vectors

Blood frogs will encounter a person, and will silently hop to it and then bite it with its sharp teeth. The venom in the teeth will numb the pain, and the frog releases millions of eggs from the many warts on its back. The minute eggs are provided a safe passage to the blood from the bite wound, where the eggs lay and will hatch after a few days.

Symptoms

When the eggs hatch into tadpoles, a small purple spot will appear. As the eggs dissolve in the blood, the purple spot expands, sometimes up to 10cm in diameter.
Blood clots will occur throughout the body as tadpoles start to clog the bloodstreams, and can clog them with their faeces. Swelling throughout the body will also occur.

Treatment

Currently there is no known treatment, as there isn't for any creature from the Horror Dimension. This is why people are encouraged to either run from or kill blood frogs when found, and why they are so feared with Aar-Aori culture and have rituals and myths surrounding them.

Epidemiology

When tadpoles have killed off their host and drank all the blood in their bodies, they will leave through various exits in the body and will swim through water passages to a next host. Swamps are therefore perfect environments for this, and why they are so deadly in Sarabar Swamp. The frequency at which eggs are produced mean more and more tadpoles are hatched, and will infect other people. High density populations are most at risk from these frogs.

History

Throughout history from its discovery to present day, these frogs have been feared. In Aar-Aori culture, they created a sport where they would use long sticks and poles and would go out hunting blood frogs in the night, stabbing as many frogs as they can and then burning them on a stake and thrown away. This immense fear from aar-aoris brought about many interesting rituals involving killing of the blood frogs to rid the tribes of this deadly disease.

Frogs laying eggs in people's blood and the tadpoles drinking the blood is a really interesting idea! Definitely sounds like it would be at home in said Horror Dimmension - really cool :D
