Barrel Berry Tree

One of the most popular fruits on Capepo, barrel berries are a large fruit tree species native to Szataris, a region of Barbas. The largest berry on the planet, these delicious fruits are so popular they are shipped off-planet and distributed across the Milky Way.

The trunk itself is generally quite thin, often branching out, the weight of the berries pulling the ends down to form an arch. The thin bark is rather malleable, capable of bending almost 180 degrees without snapping.

The berries can grow up to a foot in length. They come in a variety of shades of red, with dark yellow and orange patches round the stem.

Each leaf is thin and elongated, with a fringed edge and small spines along their veins and midvein.

Habitat

Barrel berries are exclusive to Barbas, a continent consisting of thousands of small islands. The seeds of these berries are consumed by birds and other flying animals, and as they fly to other islands and defecate, their seeds, undigested, may plant themselves on new soil.

They are an adaptable species, and they can be found on almost every island in the Szataris region of Barbas. These trees can grow in soil, sand, and gravel, and can even absorb apalous instead of water. In their native habitat they are a common prey item of many herbivorous and omnivorous animals, such as bronze sloths,sun sloths, and palm penguins

The easy accessibility, the long shelf life, and the simplistic taste and texture make barrel berries an extremely popular treat for foreigners. These berries can grow in natural and artificial habitats, and are extremely adaptable. Different breeds and variants of these berries have been made, when grown in artificial environments. Some have been grown in colder climates, which have produced berries with a thicker skin and thin fur.

Barrel berries are some of the cheapest fruits to buy on markets in space. They can survive the depths of the spacial void for up to an entire 24 hours without going stale. These berries make a popular breakfast food, especially in factories who's workers have little time in the mornings. Workers are given a berry and a spoon, and what they do with it is up to them.
