Pyre Leviathan

Pyre leviathans are a huge aquatic reptilian species, regarded as a leviathan, living in the Polaris Ocean of Ocearia. It is one of the largest known species on Ocearia, at 214m long.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The pyre leviathan has a very long, segmented body, made up of 120 segments. It has deep blue scales, which help them to hide in the dark oceans where it lives. The mouth has a long snout, with long, spindly transparent teeth, in 3 rows along the jaws. The eyes sit on the top of the head, below the head, on the sides and in front of its head, giving it perfect vision of every surroundings. Their tails end in a sharp spike, with three small fins on the end, in the shape of a propeller.

Genetics and Reproduction

Pyre leviathans haven't been examined much, since they are so dangerous, but it is thought that they have a breeding ground somewhere in the middle of Dark Depths. There are giant heat signals detected around an island there, which is where the pyre leviathans may be nesting.

Ecology and Habitats

Pyre leviathans need deep waters, as their snaky body doesn't fit well in any environment that isn't more than 3500m deep. They are accustomed to darkness, and they are found in the deepest parts of the midnight zone and the abyssopelagic zone, or the abyss.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Pyre leviathans have a plethora of food they can eat, since they are so big. They have been recorded eating people, eating whales and dolphins, sharks and other predatory fish, literally any sea creature could be eaten. Their jaws can unhinge at almost 180 degrees, allowing easy swallowing, and their razor sharp teeth can rip apart large chunks of meat.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their 8 eyes placed on different parts of the head give it unmatched vision, able to see far into the oceans and spot prey. It is almost impossible to sneak up on a pyre leviathan, the easiest way is with an invisibility potion and even then is it still difficult because they can see movement in waters.

Pyres

Pyre leviathans live fairly close to thermal spires, small volcanoes that spew out boiling water and occasionally magma. They get their name from these, and how they never stray too far from them.
