Phosphomancy

Phosphomancy a field of magic involving light. It is frequently tied to the dimension Sabala, as many phosphomancers extract energy from that dimension to power their phosphomagical spells. It is also known as "light magic".

Utility & Usage

Phosphomancy encompasses almost all spells that involve some sort of light or photonic energy manipulation.

Photonic Plates

The most common usage of phosphomancy is to manifest photonic plates. These small platforms are concentrated slabs of light, capable of floating in a single position, ignoring gravitational laws, allowing the user to walk on top of them. Many people summon these plates for easier locomotion, such as crossing over busy roads or walking along rivers.

Illumination

Since phosphomancy is the controller of light, many people use it to illuminate dark areas. Law enforcement officers investigating abandoned households will use phosphomancy to illuminate the building so it can be easily searched, negating any need for handheld flashlights which may reduce the abilities of the officers.

Some illumination spells are beyond easy to cast; toddlers have even been shown to be able to perform the simplest of illumination spells, which simply lights up the room.

Users

There are few regions in the Yonderverse where phosphomancy rules. This particular type of magic doesn't attract many organisations or cults, but instead isolated users are much more common.

Lux

The Lux are the only intelligent species inhabiting Sabala, the dimension where most phosphomancers draw their power from. These people are made of light, and so their ability to control phosphomagic is unparalleled. When they leave their home dimension, most of their powers are lost and so they are less of a threat, which is a relief considering the Lux have made several attempts to take over the entire Yonderverse.

Social Reputation

Phosphomancy is a relatively harmless field of magic, classed as Grade 2 (out of 7). Phosphomagical users tend to be more relaxed people, with kindhearted natures. Because of this, they are looked up to in many societies, particularly planet-bound cultures that don't have a good concept of stars, star life cycles, and light in general.

Mastering Phosphomancy

Due to the size and complexity of this magical field, it is incredibly difficult to be considered a master of phosphomancy. Many masters of the magical field have been brutally training for hundreds of years, and were gifted with natural skill and an affinity for this particular type of magic.

Don't be discouraged, since anybody can become skillful at phosphomancy. It is simply unlikely for one to become a master at this craft, but it does not take much training to become adept.
