Kurgur Disease
When the people of the moons of Levinan went extinct, the planet's inhabitants were left stranded and without communication.
Levinians had only just developed the technology to travel into space, and they had reached five of the seventy moons orbiting Levinan. Having built a strong relationship between the two civilisations, the two species were almost ready to venture into space together, tackling whatever might come their way as a unit.
Kurgur disease tore all this apart. It spread through the moons, a rampant infestation. Constant mutations meant any cures were worthless within just a few days.
The epidemic ended up taking nearly ninety-nine billion lives, over seventy moons.
Symptoms

There were just a few identified symptoms of kurgur disease. The final symptom before death was rotting of the spinal cord. Infected would collapse within hours of contracting one of the alien parasites. The parasite would bite at the neck, releasing a toxin that turned the entire spine to mush.
An earlier symptom was paralysis of the legs. Those with the disease would be unable to move from the waist down, completely prohibiting walking. Those infected in their sleep would wake up with sweats and shivers, slowly melting into the bed frame unable to escape.
Severe starvation and dehydration was the first telltale sign of kurgur disease. Parasites would nest in the digestive system early on, eggs hatching into larva that fed on whatever the host consumed.
History
Kurgur disease was a vector-born disease, carried by a small parasite. This parasite, a small species of green nebula wasp, carried the disease and began spreading it around the moons of Levinan. The disease first infected those on Izviril, a small oceanic moon.
The disease spread through Izviril's sixteen million inhabitants within days. In a week, not a single person was left. By that time the parasites had infected six other moons and counting. It took mere months for all seventy moons to be infected, leaving not a single person left alive. Few diseases in the history of the Milky Way have ever travelled this fast, and done this much damage so quickly.
The planet and its moons became a No-Fly Zone, and any travel was banned. Levinians were left on their home planet. The only contact they ever had with the outside world was with the people of the moons, which meant they were now completely isolated and alone, unaware that nobody would ever visit them again.
Thankfully, this disease has now been declared extinct.

Don't like it, not at all. How was that wasp so fast in spreading? Is it able to fly through space or were the people on the moons further with space travel then the Levinians themselfes? How come it didn't spread to the planet, only to the moons? I know, a lot of questions :D
The wasps can travel through space and through different atmospheres of the moons - I'm imagining them to be very hardy creatures, and can survive most things. I don't have a good answer for why the disease only spread around the moons and not the planet, but I really want to expand on this article so I'll come up with a good reason for it then! Thank you so much for the questions!
