Hothirian Mantis

The Hothirian Mantis is a large crustacean native to the coral reefs of Hothiri. Measuring in at ten feet in length, they are the largest coastal crustacean species on the planet.

They have no natural predators and as a result are fairly passive creatures, only attacking when provoked. The first adventurers of Hothiri learned a valuable lesson when encountering these animals; with bulletproof chitin plating, razor-sharp claws, a venomous bite and a digestive system so powerful it can handle consuming mantisite, next to nothing can kill a hothirian mantis.

Hothirian mantises secrete a noxious odour that leaks into the surrounding water. They use it to communicate with other mantises, but it drives away other creatures so horrified by the disgusting smells. The odour is so potent that it breaks through the walls of underwater factories, lingering in hallways, dorm rooms, and workplaces for hours, even days at a time.

These animals come in a wide array of colours. Their exoskeleton is patterned, with a kaleidoscope of streaks and swirls.

Ugh, there's a mantis outside. Those guys produce the most noisome smell in existence. Like a thousand rotten eggs left in a manky tupperware in the back of your fridge for two months.
