Fruit Roasting

Fruit roasting is one of the many interesting traditions in the Surbarian culture. It involves the picking of fruits from the tropical orchards, roasting them over an open fire, and then eating them with family.

History

Fruit roasting has been done by the Surbaria People for thousands of years. Picking fruits has always been the village's number one source of food, however they have not always been roasting them. The first records of the Surbaria People roasting fruits was from about 7000 years ago. They would wrap their fruits that they picked in large leaves, and place them on an open fire.   Fruit roasting only became a popular tradition about 4000 years ago, when people would come together at a particular time, usually dawn and dusk, and they would cut their fruits into slices, wrap them in the leaves, and would place them over a communal fire. They would then stand up, hold hands, and dance around the fire and stop in a position not where they started. They would take the leaf-wrapped fruit that was in front of them, prepared by someone else, and eat it with their family. The whole idea of fruit roasting and dancing in front of the fire was to bring together the people of the village.

Popular Fruits

There were many fruits that the Surbaria People grew. Living on a tropical coastline, the fruits found there were very unusual and were unique to their location.

Sizzle Fruits

Sizzle fruits are one of the few spicy fruits. These plump, red fruits are similar in shape to Earth's tomatoes, but they contain seeds that are extremely spicy. Some people take out the seeds before roasting, in case the person that eats their fruits aren't a fan of the spiciness.

Cherry Berries

Cherry berries grow on large bushes that are used to encase the tropical orchards, stopping grazing mammals from getting into it. Their aroma is a deterrent for many species, however it attracts the Surbaria People. This aroma magnifies when roasted, making it a popular food.

Dangle Pears

Dangle pears are very long pears. These pears are a yellowish colour when ripe, but turn a deep brown when roasted perfectly. They are again, a popular treat for the Surbaria People, and one of the healthiest fruits in the tropical orchard.

Some people actually eat the leaves themselves, once they have consumed the roasted fruits. The leaves come from the katarak tree, a large palm tree with round, edible leaves. These leaves get roasted as well as the fruits, which turns them into hard, crispy snacks. These are sometimes roasted on their own as well, and serve well as a midday snack.
