Fluburow

Fluburows are small burrowing birds found in moderate temperature biomes around the globe. In the wild, they are most common in Trecath, where the climates are on average 20℃. They have been sighted in various countries, mostly Hanoan and Nydiowa, occasionally Espya and Giriga. These creatures have been heavily domesticated, and 78% of the population of fluburows are household pets.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Fluburows have rotund bodies and rotund faces. They possess light brown feathers, and have green stripes along their face in different locations depending on the bird, commonly forming "eyebrows". Their beaks are a dark grey, often mistaken for black. The beaks are short but wide, forming a shovel shape. They use their strong beaks to scoop out dirt and soil for their burrows. They have long, thin, black legs with 3 toes on each foot. They have short tail feathers, which are a mottled brown colour. These are shorter as to not get in the way while the bird is in the burrow and the tunnels.

Ecology and Habitats

Fluburows enjoy a mild climate, preferably 15-25℃ temperature; the majority of Trecath falls under this range. They construct their burrows in the ground where the soil pH is 7-8. The birds also prefer softer soil, as it is easier to dig and puts less pressure on their beaks. The birds generally tend to dig their burrows in wooded areas, where they can use foliage and fallen leaves to cover the entrances to their burrows.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Fluburrows eat a wide variety of food, as they are omnivorous. They consume various small berries and wildflowers they'll find in their forest environment. They will eat small bugs they find scurrying about on the ground, and they'll even fly out of the forests to find other flying insects such as meadow midges, for a more enriching meal.

Domestication

There are few common household pets to choose from, such as trihounds. Fluburrows are a common choice for people who own gardens, despite the minor inconveniences they pose. For people who dislike the common creatures to dig up gardens, they most likely will own a fluburrow. Fluburrows guard their burrows with everything they have, including dive-bombing things. This drives away other burrowing creatures, and other creatures that may dig up their gardens, thus keeping the gardens looking nice and fresh except for one small hole, which will be hidden with leaves.
