Devil Flower

This article contains secret content, accessed by the fabled Wanderers and Voyagers. If you would also like to see this content, please follow this link to my KoFi page.

An unfortunate blend of death and disdain, devil flowers are a species of plant with an unknown origin. The species has been so widely grown in space colonies that its planetary origin is unknown, and since it sits in a family of plants all on its own, nobody can pinpoint where it first found. The plant contains a sap that is incredibly toxic to the slime species, and for that reason it has been grown to manufacture Slime Repellent.

Devil flowers have five major and ten minor petals, overlapping in an actinomorphic pattern. These petals are reddish-black with white stripes running from the base to the tips of the petals.

A Horrifying Concoction

The discovery of devil flowers occurred immediately after slimes first started sailing into space. Whether or not this was a coincidence is unknown, but it is without a doubt an unfortunate occurrance. The flower's sap is extracted from the seeds, which are sliced open and lightly toasted on small funnel trays. The sap will seep out and collect at the base of the funnel trays, and the sap is sent off to manufacturing businesses that are able to transform the sap into Slime Repellent.

Many people aware of slimes and their presence in society have the preconceived idea that they are unhygienic, stemming from the fact that they constantly secrete amounts of slime, more or less depending on the individual. These ideas are slowly being fought against, but when the hatred of these people was at its highest Slime Repellent was used in public spacings to keep slimes from wanting to visit, as the Repellent only had an adverse effect on slimes.

Smelling Salts

One of the more unusual uses for devil flowers are turning them into smelling salts, for reviving the unconscious. Devil flowers have a naturally vile odour, despised by all (but only actually toxic to slimes), so the aroma produced is able to snap practically anybody back to life. It can also be used to somewhat reliably determine whether or not someone is dead - if they don't wake up, chances are they've popped their clogs.

While the manufacturing of slime repellent is now illegal, manufacturing these smelling salts remains a common practice, especially in the medical industry.

Toxic to slimes? I'd have a friggin' moat garden of the things. ( I am not a fan of slimy things so I'd be one of those ***s << ) The fact they'd look cool helps.   I also like that SO MUCH is unknown... but people found out something to do with them regardless. Dunno where it came from, dunno what origin, BUT.... if we slice open and toast the seeds, we can make the slimes stay away. So there's that.

What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark?

Thank you! They most likely were, but the knowledge of these plants is so little that there's no guarantee xD
