Baraleis

Baraleis is an extinct planet from the Veiled System. The planet succumbed to overheating, to the point where it was engulfed by its star, as the star progressed through the Star Life Cycle and became a Red Giant.

History

Baraleis was approximately ten billion years old at its time of death. Its native sophonts, the baralein, had existed for the last three million years . The planet's first lifeforms were basic as they always are, but they quickly evolved. The first major creatures to evolve were tetrapods, no smaller than the average house. It is unknown how these animals got to such sizes so early on, but over the millions of years they got larger and larger.

When the planet was five billion years old it experienced a severe global warming, caused by the star it orbited shifting in size. The star only increased by 0.0000001%, yet it had drastic effects on Baraleis. Almost all life on the planet perished, leaving the smallest of invertebrates alive, including primitive bees.

With many ecological niches to fill, the bees quickly evolved and diversified over several million years, which eventually gave rise to the baraleins. Over the five billion years these people grew in both size and intelligence, but becoming extinct when Oville progressed from a Main Sequence Star to a Red Giant.

Baraleins

These buzzy people were very magically and technologically advanced, but that didn't fare well against the solar system-wide extinction event. The baraleins had developed a grand networking system, accessible through mental links.

The baralein have a similar anatomy to different kinds of bees, particularly notable in the colouration. They had three pairs of appendages - one pair to walk with and two mentally linked to their bodies that can reach up to twenty feet.

Despite having the capabilities, the baraleins never left their home planet. They felt safe after they sent several documenting spacecrafts into space and discovered terrifying creatures of gigantic proportions.

The baralein in the image above has a total of 13,000 beecoins, putting her in the higher end of the lower class.

Beecoins

Beecoins were a revolutionary form of currency that the baraleins invented. These coins were one of the first digital currencies to ever be used in the Yonderverse. They were stored in individual vaults, also known as accounts, and were used to purchase goods, such as food, clothing, personal items.

The number of beecoins any individual had was displayed above one's heads, as a holographic projector. This would determine the higher and lower classes, and society on the planet was organised this way.

Beecoins served as the blueprint for charms, the most popular currency in the entire Yonderverse. These digital coins were one of the first of its kind, and showing how effective it can be paved the way for digital currencies to become the norm, particularly in space.

I cannot help but giggle with glee at the term "beecoins!" Especially since I just wrote a Patrons-only piece calling someone a well-informed little bee.
