Aurvadic Whale

The largest animal species on Jupiter, aurvadic whales are the aurvad equivalent of cetaceans, hence the name. These goliath beasts use their probosci, attached along their backs, to float through the skies, often seen breaching Jupiter's Edge, visible from space.

They are an incredibly endangered species and hunting one is illegal, punishable by death in extreme cases. Due to their size there aren't many, as these animals can grow to over a hundred metres in length. Various myths and legends from around the planet talk of mythical armies of jovians that rode on aurvadic whales, into horrific space battles against other planets.

These animals grow so large and live for so long that jovian's aren't entirely sure how long they live for on average. It is speculated that with adequate climate, food, and a lack of predators, aurvadic whales can live up to a thousand years, but since jovians live for around two hundred years, it requires a string of scientists just to study a single whale.

Anatomy

Aurvadic whales are a pale purple in colouration, standing out from the dusty brown cloud fields they inhabit. Despite their striking colouration, they are almost invisible when viewed from inside the planet, but become extremely visible from outer space. They have thick, silky skin, almost a foot thick, with a streamlined body designed for speed.

Captain, we are approaching planet Jupiter- hold on, what is that? It looks like something's moving in the planet.
...they're gorgeous. There's so many of them, and they seem to be making patterns in the clouds.

The little quote at the end pretty much sums my feelings on whales in general. They're gorgeous. And I would love to see a purple space whale.

What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark?

Ooh, ooh, tell me more! These are great. I love the notion that they live so long that it takes a whole lineage of scientists to study just one animal.

I will definitely be expanding on this article once the ceremony and judging period is over! Keep an eye out ;) also I'm super glad you enjoyed the idea that several generations of scientists need to study just one animal, i thought that was a pretty cool idea xD
