My Journey

AAHH, my 2nd time submitting to WAWA. This past year.. hasn't been the best; most of the World Anvil events didn't go as well as I had hoped, except for WorldEmber. Despite that, I still created some decent articles and, in fact, created a new world!
However, as I learned from submitting to WAWA for the first time last year and seeing the kinds of articles that have won, including those from other events, I now feel that many of my articles don't quite live up to the same caliber. I know many of you like my articles (and Legends of the Dragonguard almost has 100 followers now!), and I know not to compare myself to others, but it's simply that most of my articles are incomplete. While my articles have the general idea down, and some have some a decent amount of detail, but I'd still like to add more to them. And some are just outdated and really need to be updated.
So, with that said, I've taken a look back at my articles through a new lens, and I don't think I have many that are actually complete enough that I feel like they would have a chance in WAWA. I know they don't have to be perfect or complete complete, but at a certain point, there is a level of quality (which is not really what I want to say but I don't know how else to word it) that is needed to compete effectively with others. There are still a lot of things I'd like to add and do to my articles that I don't think they'd do well right now in WAWA — for instance, I have recently started to rework the Dragonguard's article, and to improve the explaination on how exactly the organization works, so I do not feel like I should be submitting it this year. I also took quite a long break from worldbuilding over the past few months, so I did not have the time to polish things before submissions ended.
This year, I am only submitting a few things that I think could actually have a chance, have a good amount of detail, and a somewhat decent article design. Though the Emberscale Wyvern is kind of a large amount of text with no images, I really like the concept and the details describing the species, so I'm hoping it will be enough to at least get it nominated.
You should totally follow my worlds >:)

A dragon-themed variation of the original War card game, played with two or three draconian decks. It has slightly different rules and dragon-themed cards, with a few added special events that can happen depending on the cards at war, called Scourge Wars.

I really like how this turned out. I've been wanting to add a dragon-themed game to my world, and this works perfectly! You can also legitimately play it, even with a normal deck of cards; it's quite fun! I even went so far as designing my own simplified deck of cards.

A remarkable genus of wyverns that frequently reside in the rugged terrains surrounding volcanoes. They have two mesmerizing lava-orange eyes with slit pupils, giving them exceptional night vision. Their scales are a stunning reflection of their volcanic habitat, and are incredibly robust and tough for the wyvern's survival during volcanic eruptions.

This has been one of my favorite dragonkins I have created so far. I really wish I had images of these wyverns, especially the vitreous species, because they sound so freaking awesome. I genuinely like the concept I made here of dragonkin who live on volcanoes and use them to incubate their eggs. The vitreous emberscale is my favorite, because the description of them sounds so damn cool, and the fact that their back scales can interlock in such a way to survive direct contact with lava is just so badass.

A unique artifact that functions beyond the conventional understandings of deletion. This enigmatic device possesses the extraordinary ability to erase anything that touches it or is directed towards it — vanishing them from existence entirely. It does not delete; an erasure of data that leaves behind ghostly echoes — no, it is an existential reset. Bits are not deleted, nor erased, but returned to a state of absolute zero.

This is one of my favorite pieces of technology I have created for my worlds so far. This is the device of this world, which is what it's named after. A Null Device, sometimes referred to as /dev/null (wink, wink), is an actual thing on computers. I like the concept of null (if you couldn't tell by my user name), and I really like the concept I created of taking that and putting it in a physical form, or as much of a physical form as I can in a world. Very scary device :)

"Though the Emberscale Wyvern is kind of a large amount of text with no images ..."
Well yes, but that is the best kind of article so it's cool.   But yeah, good luck in the awards. Your stuff does definitely have a shot in them.

Go check out Stellar Journey, will you? It's pretty cool, I'm told.

It sounds like rather than comparing yourself to others, you've learned things you like from others' articles and now you're trying to apply that to your own. I'm glad you've found your happy middle of submitting what you felt confident in while continuing to work toward next year.   Hope the awards season goes well for you, and I look forward to seeing that updated Dragonguard article in next year's list!
