Title Menu

While I was setting up this hub world, I thought of a fun thing to do with the cover image. Ultimately, it didn't work out, but it's too cool to yeet it into the void, so I archived it on this page. Fun fact: I wanted to do this with my /dev/null world, as it has a similar cover image like this, but I never took the time to figure it out.
Go ahead! Hover over the "cover image". :)
It may or may not work for you. It's not great responding with different window/screen sizes..

Feel free to hit F12 and look at the CSS; it was a pain in the ass to position things. The CSS is a little different from the original because I had to tailor it specifically for this page instead of using the global header section.
Yes, this is actual text. Since I have a simple cover image, I was able to recreate it with text on the page. I used a Combining Double Breve Below for the smiley bit. The slash isn't text, though; it's just a thicc border so I can translate it separately from the actual text. There's a box with an overflow-x to hide the text as it slides away. The rest is positioning and transition timing.

Why I chose not to use this

Well, there are several reasons why I ultimately didn't use this.
  • Does not respond well to different window / screen sizes, and i dont feel like figuring it out.
  • Hiding the menu behind a hover interaction, with the "cover image" nonetheless, is not good. People won't instinctively know where the menu is, and hover interactions, of course, aren't good for mobile use.
  • Most articles don't have the default cover image, so it wouldn't be seen anyway.
  • Do not make me think about the CSS mobile implications for this, i will cry

  • fun times
If it doesn't currently work for you, here's what it looked like when I still had it as the "cover image"
