Khael'dran, an enormous ancient sea serpent, is renowned for his striking deep red coloration and elongated, serpentine form that glides gracefully through the water. This formidable creature is infamous among sailors, particularly pirates, for his propensity to attack and sink their vessels. With remarkable strength, he often wraps around the ship and squeezes it, snapping the keel of the ship in half — a tactic that earned him the moniker "Keel Cracker". Over time, this name evolved into the more menacing "Kraken", a term that now sends shivers down the spines of those who traverse the waters of his domain.
Primarily inhabiting the waters of the Shattered Archipelagos, Khael'dran is known to venture into the vast ocean that lies west of Ravia. As the second-largest sea serpent on the planet, he is only dwarfed by the legendary Void Leviathan. Despite his imposing size and fearsome reputation, Khael'dran shares an unusual camaraderie with Taavi, forming a bond that is as ancient as the seas themselves.
Khael'dran's impressive size slightly rivals that of the Wyrm of Chaos, adding to his presence as a majestic yet perilous guardian of the deep.

Personal history

Khael'dran harbors a deep-seated vendetta against pirates, stemming from overfishing in the waters surrounding the Shattered Archipelagos. This ecological destruction spurred his desire to protect the sea he calls home. Khael'dran's hatred intensified during his involvement with the Dragonguard forces in the Draconian War, where he witnessed the relentless attacks from pirate factions against naval vessels aiding in the defense of their realm.
Among the pirate ships that plagued the archipelagos, the most notorious was the Stormrider. Commanded by a ruthless captain, the Stormrider was relentless in its quest to eliminate threats to its crew and domain over the waters, even going as far as to put a bounty on Khael'dran and hunt him down. However, the captain became increasingly consumed by the allure of the World Hole and the rumored treasure said to be hidden within. In a fateful encounter, the Stormrider and its crew were taken to the depths of the sea by the Void Leviathan, with the help of the novascale amphithere known as the Voiceless.

This was inspired by the mythological Kraken sea monster.^[1] However, to fit this world as an ancient dragonkin, the character was created as a sea serpent, which technically falls under the classification of a wyrm.

Khael'dren was the first character to have an apostrophized name.
