Calgern Port
Calgern Port is a large port town and trading station located in the north west of Hepsut, situated on the south west coast of Calgern Island, which lies at the mouth of the Indara River.
Calgern Port is an independent settlement, with close ties to the Coven of Maran. The town is located directly on the main naval trade route into Hepsut, with all foreign trade travelling through Calgern Port before going on to the Maran Docks to the south, or Noverok to the east. Calgern Port is a common location for traders and cargo ships to sell off their goods, especially for those who don’t want to pay the tax to pass the Sigurn's Gate and bring their trade inland to the Maran Docks.
Government
Calgern Port is governed by the Calgern Consortium, a council of wealthy, private businessmen that manage the local affairs and trade of the town.
One of their number is a representative of the Coven of Maran, who defends the interests of the Coven.
Defence
Calgern Port is defended by a private militia, funded by the Calgern Consortium. A sizable fleet of warships is also docked at Calgern Port, who are responsible for defending the town, as well as nearby trade ships, from pirates.
Commerce
Calgern Port is the largest trade port Hepsut, with a continuous flow of goods passing through it's harbour. Calgern Port is also a nexus for almost all trade travelling between the Red Current and the nations of the Coven of Maran and the Triumvirate of Kahz Molduhr.
Many markets can be found in Calgern Port, as well as a few taverns, inns and other amenities, which cater to the constant stream of sailors and traders that pass through the town. Most of any goods can be found within the town's walls, and usually for a cheaper price than in the rest of Hepsut.
Calgern Port also has a small fishing trade, as well as having a small agricultural trade of crops and animal products, cultivated from the surrounding farmland on Calgern Island.
Geography
Calgern Port is a bustling town located on the south eastern banks of Calgern Island, surrounded by a few acres of farmland.
The town itself is a sprawling mess of buildings, primarily made of wood, connected by winding streets. The bulk of the town is comprised of the bazaar and the harbour, which both lie at the south eastern part of town. The bazaar is a large network of colourful market stalls, selling all manner of goods, from food to jewellery and weapons. The bazaar borders up against the Calgern Harbour, a large port, with numerous docks, which house fishing vessels, visiting trade ships, as well as warships. A tall lighthouse rests to the north of the town.
