Shortail Drake

Species |1056 Words

"Workhorses" of the Dragonguard, Shortail drakes inhabit a diverse range of environments across the expansive land of Azlov, making their presence felt on nearly every continent. They are typically used for ground infantry units.   True to their name, these drakes possess notably short tails, significantly shorter than those of other dragonkin species. However, the shortail variety is not entirely uniform; some species may indeed feature tails that, while still shorter than the norm, are comparatively longer.   The range of coloration is particularly striking, with scales ranging from deep, rich hues to lighter shades. Many of these drakes showcase darker tones on their dorsal sides, while their ventral sides often feature lighter colors. Certain types residing in arid regions or lush tropical rainforests have developed venomous traits.

Cliffhanger

Species | 618 Words

Cliffhanger amphitheres are known for their ability to cling to steep, sheer cliffs with their powerful, clawed wings. They inhabit various mountain ranges and sea cliffs across Azlov. They are notably smaller than most dragonkin; their size limits their ability to fly with a rider aboard.   Their claws are pronounced and sharp, enabling them to anchor themselves securely as they scale vertical surfaces. Additionally, they have a long, slender prehensile tail, which they can adeptly use to wrap around protrusions or hold onto branches and rocks for stability. Their coloration varies and is tailored to each species' specific habitat.   The cliffhangers that live on sea cliffs have earthy browns and vibrant greens, interspersed with striking blues that resonate with the coastal landscape. In contrast, Ridgeback cliffhangers boast a sophisticated blend of muted tan and grey shades. Cliffhangers that live in the Scarsands Canyon present a lighter, sandy appearance, with shades of soft brown and pale tan, and red tones that mimic the sandstone of the area. Lastly, the Shatterscale cliffhangers stand out with their deep, obsidian-black coloration and white accents, perfect for blending into the snowy jagged black rock of the Shatterscale Mountains.

Ridgeback drakes are a unique group of drakes native exclusively to the rugged terrains surrounding theRidgeback Mountains. Bigger than the Shortail Drake, they are distinguished by a pronounced, ridge-like crest that runs along their spines, providing them with a striking appearance that sets them apart from other dragonkin.   Like the Shortail Drake, these drakes also primarily serve in ground infantry operations for the Dragonguard, though predominantly in the areas surrounding Eldrya and the Ridgeback Mountains.   There are three species within this genus, all confined to the Ridgeback Mountains region. The mountains themselves were named after these drakes, highlighting their cultural impact on the area. Among the species, the Western Ridgeback thrives in the lush forests to the west of the mountain range. Meanwhile, the Mountain Ridgeback makes its home directly within the craggy cliffs and rocky outcroppings of the mountains themselves. Finally, the Eastern Ridgeback inhabits the eastern flank of the mountains, residing in the diverse ecosystems that lie between the shores of Guardian's Haven Bay and the arid expanses of the Duskfire Desert.
