Longrass Tribe

Established in 4100-ish when The Twin Spears tribe split into two, this mostly-liony collection left the riversides and started wandering the forests, moving northeast until they reached the plains where they scattered from.    The Longrass settled in 4300-ish after a long winter and the death of their Seeker. The Chief of Tribe at the time had picked a good valley in the bend of a river, where the plains met the trees, and the land lent itself to easy predation when it could be spared and easy shelter and easy water--she wasn't inclined to leave. Especially when she noticed in spring that virtually everyone had been spending time 'keeping warm' an old fashioned way and now virtually everyone was pregnant.   So she settled.   The village was quickly established (I think I bullshit that story in the chief link, I'll look later) and a year after declaring themselves stationary, they celebrated their first equinox.   By summer solstice, the news had gotten around to a fair bit of the Waterwalk and stray Longrass, and by Winter solstice, everyone knew where to find Home.   ~   The The Unguided Tribe set apart from this one in 4318.   ~   The Tribe dissolved in 4345~ after the murder of all their good hunters and the exile of Ro, the Mistress of the Hunt and Eupa, followed by the death of Chief Bullrush and I really hate that story, holy hells. The remaining members of the village divided by family lines (mostly) and renamed themselves Hopewell and Newpath, while others rejoined the Unguided or Waterwalk.

Structure

Largely an autonomous collection with the chief as a standing figurehead. The chief (traditionally) treats all villagers as council members and refers to them for their wisdom or suggestions as needed. Expertise is respected and authority on the subject is left to the experts in question.

Culture

Mostly hunting and raising family. The world around them takes care of them as they take care of it, and the symbiosis is respected.

History

The village was founded on accident when Longrass Seeker Stormborn helped them find somewhere good to stay and prepare for a long winter. Over the course of the unusually long, harsh time, before the end of spring, the Seeker went out against the Shaman's advice, and, unbeknownst to his people, suffered his death and a curse to fall upon his people.  The Shaman died on the same day; no one knew what had happened.  Without a guide and without a shaman; with a long winter and many pregnant women, the Chief at the time (Bullrush's mother that I haven't named), decided that they would stay where they were.

Disbandment

After a series of tragedies, accidents, and some good old subversion; the village was left without any hunters, without any defenses, and without any hope for recovery.    It was agreed upon by the people to split into three groups along family lines and part ways, leaving the valley for whoever would take it.

Demography and Population

Throughout the years of its existence, the settled tribe averaged about fifty people- thirty-six at the smallest, seventy-five at its biggest

Territories

The tribe laid claim to a patch of land that they 'farmed' by controlling the life within it, maintaining the balance and taking care of the various peoples that lived there.

Education

Most education came from the adults that had been or gone abroad and joined the tribe, bringing their lessons and information. About half knew how to read and write, it was traditional for the children to at least learn to spell their names; maths were always taught, though numbers may not have been. Most learned a second language.
