There is nothing outwardly dangerous in the room. Two medical droids, five patients, and a female Falleen doctor. Two humanoid children, two older gentlemen, and the last is a lady of indeterminate age. There are no obvious injuries, but there are patches of gray skin. As I walk in, I see another door and just as I see it, two Black Sun people walk in with two more patients on a repulsorlift. They are wheezing and the doctor has them put onto a bed. A quick triage gets them settled in and medication started. The doctor glances at me, does a double take and then looks over to see Zaye. She turns pale but finishes the work on the new patients. She then comes over to me and tells me my name. I introduce Zaye as she has already noticed her. She asks if we are working with Grakkus and I inform here that is not an option for our lives. She is happy to hear that and then mentions that she was brought here as a doctor since Black sun feels that she owes them as they know she assisted an Imperial assassin.
I start asking her about the patients and she tell me that they have the Gray Creep and gives me some details. most importantly that in can be found in groundwater, but once it is inside a person, it switches to airborne contamination. I immediately send Zaye next door. She understands why and happily goes to get an inventory of the crates. Doctor Bodvel Dej begins giving us the facts on what is known about the situation so far. It appears that the imperial mining colony is the source of the malady. Black Sun sent in two full teams and no one from either team returned so they are more than likely dead. Next a droid was sent in and brought back news. It appears to be a symbiotic life form that is retaliating by attacking people going to a specific area. The images from the droid - well half of a droid - is scan footage that shows Black Sun minions having been killed in multiple ways beside a sludge river that looks like mercury. Then a creature comes out that is not a stormtrooper.
This sludge appears to be the gray creep - lots and lots of it - and is probably a science project that started six months before the Imperials left abruptly. It turns out that the start of this project was in lab 1313 by a scientist named Morduur Zel. I ask her what she needs to help her figure out a cure. She needs two things - need sample from one of the Black Sun corpses AND a sample from one of the creatures that it turned in to. OH! and it would be very helpful to have someone to help that has medical knowledge at the DNA level to help create a cure. She then reminds me that Black Sun is all about the bottom line and while they are willing to help the local now since a dead person doesn't buy things, they will be very interested in how much money they can make from that symbiote - and we are in total agreement that would be a very bad idea for the galaxy.
On a side note, and to end the conversation on a lighter note, I ask here about the rumors of the Falleen race ability to control others and be in control of Black Sun. She laughs a bit and says that she is no relation to Prince Xizor who is the one working with Black Sun. He is probably not in control of Black Sun, but he might be. She also says that only nobility can use pheromones to mesmerize anyone else - and that would include her and she suggests that Prince Xizor used that ability in a very negative way against her. I agree that he needs to pay for that and she seems pleased. I leave her to do her doctor thing and go next door to check on Zaye.
Zaye has been playing with some guards. I guess that there was some question about her right to check out the crates and she had to explain why bothering her was not a smart idea. I give her a quick synopsis of what the doctor and I discussed. She blinks slowly a few times as she processes and then settles her shoulders to take on this additional burden. I then ask her about what she found in the crates and she discloses that the weapons crates are imperial issue. Turns out that Black Sun has been looting the mining colony armory for the weapons. Then suddenly there were talks of fangs and wings and since then there have been no further forays into the mining colony. These guards are now just making sure these crates don't walk off. I make sure that they understand that nothing is to happen to these crates until I say so and then I have a thought. There is a Bene Gesserit Proctor on the planet, and she probably can help the doctor with that DNA assessment she needs. I mention the idea to Zaye, and we grab a flamethrower to use as a bribe.
Before we head to the Night Sparrow where the Proctor should be, I talk to Kit Kat who should be at that mining colony. I get him and ask where he is in relation to lab 1313. Apparently, he is just above the lab and will be happy to send some people to see about getting the samples we need. Then he mentions that they have a patient fighting gray creep and I remember that the doctor has a medical cocktail that she said is working to halt the life stealing properties of the disease. I tell him I will send that before I move on to my next task for the day and he is happy. He also mentions that they had a meeting with a Void Widow handler. I am not even sure what to think or do about that, so I ignore it for right now. I get and send him the medical cocktail from the doctor, grab a flamethrower and Zaye and I head out to see the Proctor.
We grab a snack wrap and head over to the ship. We enter the med bay to see Proctor Aeliss Preva and Omicron sharing a hug. Zaye prefers to talk to Omicron for some reason, so I send her in to pull him to the side while I walk up making sure the flamethrower is obvious. I ask her about the outcome of the current task, and she tells me about how successful it was and that she is now ready to move on to her next task. I then bring up the current epidemic and suggest that she might be helpful as the doctor working on it has found a medical cocktail that has curtailed the spread of the disease. The Proctor is intrigued and agrees to look at the problem. I let her know that she has a few minutes to finish up as we need to check on the kids first.
We walk next door to see how Spooks, Hicks, and Commander Wolffe are doing. Apparently, they have been teaching them how to case a joint, profile a perp, camouflage, and capture a runner by cutting them off. The kids are very happy and excited. Zaye and I exchange a long-suffering look. We make sure that they have eaten and are having fun while learning and then leave them with a side comment to Hicks about ensuring that the kids do not become super villains. We head back to the Night Sparrow to get the proctor and lead her back to the doctor. Once we make the introductions, we step back to allow them to share information and start working on a solution. Suddenly the Proctor turns and says that it appears that this is a self-adapting virus that is related to what attacked the mentats. Since she has already handled that, she feels good about curing this. She does say they need a sample, but she is almost positive that it is not organic. This is probably not good news. I quickly check in with Kit Kat to see where they are on getting a sample and that seems to be going very well and they should be here in a couple of hours. I send the coordinates of the building so they can come straight here with the samples.
