Konaset
Konaset is also known as the Crown Jewel of the East, and is one of the large capital port cities in all of Atlantea, located in the south-eastern peninsula of Atlantea. Once the victim of a brutal undead siege just a few years ago, the city now shows almost no scars and has rebuilt as though nothing even happened. However, while the scars may not be visible physically, they certainly remain emotionally for the people of Konaset, and for all the victims who perished in the siege. Today, the days, the 23rd to the 26th of Endora, have been declared a national holiday for all the people of Atlantea, in remembrance of all the souls who were lost during the siege.
Demographics
Most of the people of Konaset are humans, High Atlantean, or Native Atlantean. However, there are also Sauruses and Ahihana living here as well.
Government
Though it is starting to wane these days as it is beginning to lose its relevance, Atlantea is ruled currently by a monarchy. In the old days, when the king had more relevance, the laws reflected such. But nowadays, these laws are barely even enforced, and many people believe the day will soon come when the monarchy is no more. Today, most people see the Allied Nations Council as the ruling body for the country. Currently, the land is ruled by King Antlann, and even he sees the days of kings as long past. There are whispers that he has slowly and quietly been working on reforming the Atlantean government into something new. But he has to work in secret, as there are some nobles who insist on keeping things as they are now, and in fact see him as a weak ruler.
Defences
The city is surrounded on all sides by a wall on land. At the docks, it is defended by several towers strategically positioned. Since the Battle of Konaset, the outer walls have been strengthened and reinforced in order to prevent any more tragedies such as that from ever occurring again.
Industry & Trade
Atlantea is one of the biggest producers of corn in the world, a crop native to the country, and Konaset is a major trading port for farmers looking to export to other countries. Other items Konaset trades in include fish and other seafood, some of which is brought in from Amety Island or Baha Island, as well as cheese. Konaset is the sole producer of whisker cheese, which is a delicacy for many noble people across the world.
Infrastructure
The main roads paved throughout the city are constructed of grey stone, similar to cement, and run all throughout the city. However, one of the biggest tourist attractions in the city include the Palace itself, which is surrounded on all sides by a beautiful courtyard constructed of marble with a gorgeous, ornate design, with several fountains dotted throughout. The palace itself is constructed of white pearl marble.
People get around the city on a tram line that runs all throughout the city.
Districts
In the northern part of the city lies the capital district. Just before it is a massive park, called Central Park. The southern part of the city is called the slums district. On the eastern part of the city is the docks district, and the west is the upper district. The farms are located outside the city walls.
Assets
The ever popular cheese factory, where whisker cheese is made, is in the southern part of the city, nearby to the slums. All trade merchandise is stored in the Dockhand Warehouse in the docks district. However, another part of the docks district is a part of the city known to most as Thieves' Town. It is here that it is said that the Thieves Guild is run out of. Some also say that they may be running the Dockhand Warehouses as well, and may have their hands in many things throughout the city.
Guilds and Factions
Maji Guard of course, patrol the city, but some say that they are in fact corrupt, because of many unscrupulous things that some officers have allegedly been doing. There are whispers of the Thieves Guild having inside men in the Maji Guard. Above ground, it's all sunshine. But below ground, there is a corrupt, dark underbelly that most never see.
History
Konaset was founded in the year 1421, 2nd Age. In 2739 3A, the city was besieged by hordes of undead led by the Undead Kings. Adventurers from around the world helped to defend the city in what is known today as the Battle of Konaset. Many people died during this bloody battle, however, and has left a scar on many people today, especially since the event was so recent. It will take a long time for the memories of that day to fade into history.
Points of interest
A major point of interest for many people here is, of course, the King's Palace. People are allowed on palace grounds to a point, though there are certain areas that are off limits. Other points of interest include Central Park, just south of the palace, as well as the famous cheese factory in the southern part of the city.
Tourism
Tourists are usually most eager to visit the palace, of course, but of course love relaxing in Central Park.
Architecture
Atlantean architecture includes a lot of grey stone or marble in its construction. Some people outside of Atlantea call the architecture rather high end. However, marble is rare and expensive, which would explain why construction in recent years has slowed considerably.
Geography
Most don't know this, but the land where Konaset is today was once a swamp in the times before the city was founded. The city itself today sits on the southern peninsula coast, overlooking the ocean.
Climate
Konaset enjoys a mostly temperate climate, with rain and snow during the fall and winter months, and sunshine and some rain during the spring and summer months.
Natural Resources
The most plentiful natural resource is, of course, the fish and shellfish and other seafood extracted from the ocean, as well as grain and corn from the farms outside of the city.
