World Tear
Generations ago, something happened in the Crazy Mountains of Atlantea. Generations ago, these mountains were not always called the 'Crazies'. Ever since this pivotal event, generations ago, something has been very wrong with these mountains. People go missing in this place. Some are found, some are never seen ever again. But those who do come back, some times, they are never the same again.
Some say that there is a vortex of some king in these mountains. They call it the World Tear, saying that the size of this vortex far outpaces anything ever seen before. But it wasn't caused by the incident twenty years ago when rifts opened all over the world. Instead it was merely made worse by that event. No one really knows what caused this vortex to form. There are stories passed down, but these are mere conjecture at this point.
As the stories go, there was a massive battle generations ago against the Dragon Lords. Or rather, some say it was Sirage the Lord of Rage. No one is really sure what or who this battle was against. But whatever it was, it caused a rift to open in the middle of the Crazy Mountains, in the middle of a canyon in the mountains, and over time this rift grew and grew until it became a vortex.
There isn't a whole lot that can be said for certain about this place. The only thing that is for certain is that something is very wrong with these mountains. Compasses go awry, causing people to go off course and get lost. People simply get turned around. It is hard to tell which way is which. Some experience bouts of dizziness in this place. You feel off balance. One moment you will be walking uphill, only to suddenly feel as though you are in fact going downhill. Some even experience headaches and migraines come on rather suddenly.
What's worse, is some have reported these phenomenon getting worse in recent years, ever since the end of the Battle of Konaset, where hordes of undead beseiged the Grand City of Konaset. Some believe that the vortex has grown ever so larger, that whatever the Undead Kings did that day made it worse. Some even believe that this is why the King's attempts to recolonize the Western Reaches has stalled as of late, that anyone he sends into that region never return alive. It would appear that whatever is wrong with this place has only gotten worse, and perhaps it is spreading. . .
Geography
In the middle of the Crazy Mountains is a massive canyon. It is this place that is often called the World Tear, and it is here that some believe is the central location of the vortex. Whatever river eroded away the rock and formed this canyon dried up ages ago. All through out the canyon are several caverns, some small and don't seem to go anywhere, and some are entrances to the Deep. The rocky cliffs are of a red slate. Dotted through out the region are some trees or shrubs or bushes. The canyon goes through the entire centre of the Crazy Mountains like a snake. One could get lost in this place for days, and most often do. This is why this place is generally off limits.
Localized Phenomena
All through out this canyon is a vortex like energy that emanates out through out the mountains as well, causing compasses to go awry, and people to get turned around and lost, as well as to feel dizzy and off balance, and get headaches and migraines. It is highly advised to stay out of this place, and in fact the area is off limits. If you go here, it is at your own peril.
Climate
The canyon, as well as the majority of the Crazies, has a hot desert type of climate, barren. In the winter months it will rain here almost non-stop, and during this time the winds will kick up and some report a loud sound emanating from the canyon, almost like the canyon is roaring or moaning.
Fauna & Flora
History
There was a historical battle which took place here generations ago, that no one really remembers the details about. Stories are passed down from that time, but the details have changed numerous times over the years. Some scholars even debate whether the stories are even true, and whether there really was a historical battle that took place here at all, or if it was just that, a story.
Tourism
This area is off limits to visitors, and it is highly advised that you do not travel here for any reasons. Far too many people have gone missing here, to the point that the Maji Guard and the Atlantean government no longer wish to take any chances.
