Batro ('baa-tro')

Written and created by Seth R. Mitchell.

These creatures of the night have been giving people nightmares for many centuries. But they are completely harmless to people and are beneficial to the ecosystem. Batro's don't deserve to be feared as they are. They deserve our respect. But this fear has led to them now being an endangered species, as people take drastic measures to rid themselves of this terror that is only a terror in their minds.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Batros are tiny animal Mystimon with four bat wings, small legs which it uses to hang upside down from cave ceilings. They have a narrow snout with four long fangs, small black eyes, and long pointed ears. They have often been described as flying Ikune.

Biological Traits

Some believe that Batros suck blood. This is a fallacy and wrong. But they can emit sound waves which bounce off of objects around it back to it, which it uses to navigate in the darkness. This ability is called echolocation. It is classified as part of the Beast and Flier families.

Genetics and Reproduction

They are mammals that live in huge colonies of hundreds or even thousands of Batros. When they mate, each female may birth 1 to 3 baby Batros.

Ecology and Habitats

Batros sleep all day in dark caves, only emerging at night. They can be found in different habitats all over the world, most often around mountains, or within 30 km of a cave that they use as a home base.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Batros are insectivores, feeding on insects.

Biological Cycle

They sleep all day in dark caves and only emerge at night. During the winter months, it will go into hibernation, becoming most active during the spring and summer months.

Behaviour

Many people around the world fear these creatures, but they are harmless to people. Their only focus is on consuming insects. Some Mystimon behaviourists actually believe that Batros are more afraid of us than we are of them.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Batros live in huge colonies of hundreds or even thousands.

Facial characteristics

They have a short, blunt nosed narrow snout with four long fangs, tiny black eyes and long pointed ears, often described as being similar to an Ikune.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are mostly found anywhere there are caves, around Almahna, Atlantea, Olympus, and Highwind. Often found in dark caves. They have been found in Deep caverns, though mostly near the surface, very rarely venturing any further than that. Sometimes they have been known to make their home in the attics or basements of homes. This has stirred some controversy, because people, by and large, would rather not have them in their homes. However, because they are endangered, it is illegal for them to do anything to try and remove them.

Average Intelligence

They are often described as being surprisingly intelligent.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have echolocation.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

They are a symbiotic species for people in that they feed on dangerous insect Mystimon, such as Transquito. However, this still doesn't mean that people are okay with them taking up refuge in their attics or basements.
