Charcharm

Written and created by Seth R. Mitchell

Charcharm's tail is highly sought after as a good luck charm, hence the name. For this reason, these tiny lizards have been hunted nearly to extinction. Though small, Charcharm can pack a pretty big wallop for its size, spitting out fireballs at a rapid rate in order to protect itself. But regardless of being powerful for its size, it's actually rather docile and skittish, and usually won't attack at all, resorting instead to running away from danger whenever possible. This probably is the result of being hunted down so much. Due to this, they are deathly afraid of people.

Though, despite all of this, it is one of the sweetest creatures around, once it gets past its fear.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A tiny lizard with red scaly skin, large bulgy blue eyes and four large feet with suction toes which it uses to climb just about any surface.

Biological Traits

Chameleon Charcharms have adapted the ability to change the colour of their skin depending on their surroundings in order to blend in and hide.

Adhesion The pads on their feet are like glue and are able to hold on to just about any surface, allowing them to climb up trees and rocks.

They can also defensively shed their tail. Predators may attack the wriggling tail, allowing the Charcharm to escape. The shed tails have come to be sought-after by people as good-luck charms.

Genetics and Reproduction

Charcharms lay a very small clutch of eggs, reproducing asexually. They will lay their eggs sometime in the late summer, creating their nests in small burrows.

Growth Rate & Stages

Though rarely seen, Charcharm Evo's into Charcaridon.

Ecology and Habitats

They typically live in warm or hot climates, such as deserts or rain forests, mostly found in Almahna, Atlantea, and Olympus.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Charcharm is a carnivorous creature which feeds on small insects. Their favourite is Stirge Flies.

Biological Cycle

Younger Charcharms will shed their skin roughly around once a week, while older, more mature Charcharms will shed about every two or three months.

Behaviour

Charcharms are docile toward people, typically, though in the last age, they've learned to fear people just as much as they would any predator, due to how much they've been exploited and hunted. They're insectivorous creatures, which will predate on small insects, particularly Stirge Flies. When they want to hide, they will dig into small burrows in the earth or in trees.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They are solitary creatures, even reproducing asexually.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Its tail is exploited as a luck charm.

Facial characteristics

Their eyes are blue and large and bulbous. They lack any sort of eyelids, though their night vision is hundreds of times better than that of humans or most other people. Their mouths are small and are filled with tiny sharp teeth that they use to shred through insects.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

They are a highly endangered species, though they have been found in typically warm climates, such as in Almahna, Atlantea, and Olympus.

Average Intelligence

Charcharms, despite their appearance, are highly intelligent creatures. When they look back at you, they are studying you just as much as you are studying them. They seem curious of people and their movements. Wondering if the person they're watching is going to go after them for their tail, most likely. They are also highly sensitive to the emotions of people. When a child is crying and sad, a Charcharm will approach and try to comfort the child.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They are nocturnal creatures, and as such their night vision is among the best of any Mystimon. They have displayed a sort of empathic ability, presenting a sensitivity to the emotions of people, particularly children. Their large eyes are always moving around scanning everything inch of their environments, gathering all sorts of information.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

They seem to have a symbiotic relationship with similarly small Mystimon, such as Blurrels and Quillish, who will create burrows in the earth or in trees, where Charcharms will hide out in and lay their eggs when the Blurrels or Quillish aren't at home.
