The moorn miyal

Deep below, in a chasm that runs between the eastmost of the nocturne lands, into oceanus, and below Dorsal Island, is the Moorn Miyal. Water so dark it has its own ecosystem, with animals that try to match the bioluminescence of their less pressure driven brothers and sisters, only for the chasm itself to consume all light whole.

Laying between 7 thousand metres deep to almost 10 kilometres in some stretches, this steep and winding chasm must not be the only trench within the planet the realm of Levis resides, but it is the only Major trench the Nocturne Empire is aware of. Highly pressurised and ice cold, it has been explored more by the mages and thinkers of the empire than by physical presence, with many an experiment failing in ways that show new discoveries about this region.

What is known about this region is that sending down glimmer infused probes of semi-living organics has revealed the presence of long extinct viruses and bacteria, percolated in suspected deep sea volcanic vents - things the old legends and histories (for what little the Nocturne collect) have described as long dead. It is uncertain which worries the Nightbloom mages more - the volcanic vents or the long dead viruses.

There is not much volcanic activity in the waters of the empire, and Oceanus and south western Levis has not been discovered so far to have much active sub nautical volcanic activity in general, so the presence of these hyperdeep volcanic regions does put a worry into the Nightbloom that something down below is angry and unstable - without any evidence to back up these fears.

Geography

There are 3 subregions of the moorn miyal. The Darkening lays between the Oceanus region in the south east, curling close to the Solaris coast. The Scar is the deepest area, a circular region just below Dorsal island, rumoured to be the cave of a massive subsea worm. And the Yawning, the thin crack that weaves through the Nocturne region, and connects the two.
