Oceanus

Feel the warm water between your toes. Take a breath into the endless expanse.
North of the main continental landmass of Levis lies the Oceanus region. With warm, summer currents and deep, submerged troughs and underwater canals, the region hosts a plethora of hidden species and secrets and a vibrant community of individuals and societies that straddle the region in a tapestry of color and culture. Massive predator birds fly overhead, while deep within the depths lie kraken and gargantuan sea anemone.   Trade routes and fishing villages reside here, dotting the coast and the small isles that dot the great expanse. Trolls make a large percentage of the populace here, both in the bucaneers that patrol the waters, and in the populations of the villages that scatter the region.

Geography

Oceanus lies between the Sunken Isles to the west, Dorsal Island and the Nocturne Empire to the east, and is bordered by the mainland to the south. North lies a mystery, but a massive coral reef sits as the Northmost barrier into regions not deemed Levis. While this region for most of its history also included some of the Nocturne Empire, this was because of the ignorance of those of the land and more importantly those of the inland.   Oceanus is a saltwater body, with a salinity of 37ppt. It has a strong current that runs diagonal from the trench near Avani (on the northwestern border) all the way down to just before the Digitos Mangroves. This has made travel across the current hard, but trade between Avani and the rest of the mainland surprisingly easy.

Ecosystem

Like the land, everything here glows, or at least most of it does, leading to a vibrant kaleidoscope of colour and shape within the depths. While not as coral rich as North, nor as dense as the area cultivated by the Nocturne Empire, the Oceanus region supports several hundred species of coral, mostly around the warmer northern regions of the area. While the Minas Alis sets the tone for most of the wildlife in Oceanus, it is still below the surface where most of the living takes place here.   Schools of fish still make up the majority of life here, even if the silvery glow along the flanks of the sharks here are more memorable.

Climate

Winds across this region tend to spin southeast, bringing the warmer equatorial air down across the coast. With these winds, they also tend to bring the tropical storms, most commonly the cyclones that make their way to Solaris.

Keptrosaur

These majestic swimming reptiles are built for the seas of Oceanus, surfacing to breathe air, they have 4 flippers and a tail on a lazy and round body, their mouths full of baleen to easily comb the sea depths for small and microscopic foodstuffs. Often covered in barnacles, they glow in vibrant yellows and oranges, trawling the sea depths in packs of up to dozens.
