Levis at a Glance
Updated to January 2026
What nature cannot fix, knowledge will work its magic on.
Consider the realm
Dry seasons, filled with heat and the certainty of bushfire. Brief seasons of rain punctuated by even briefer explosions of natural colour. Cracked clay, white limestone and hot granite pave the way into the endless patches of bushland.Twin suns and a single moon dominate the sky, Morticia and Debron leading to hot days and a double night filled with bioluminescence.
The smell of eucalyptus is everywhere and wafts lazily even over the sparse desert to the east. Dreadnaughts float lazily over the vast expanses, while hopping mice scurry through the reeds and scrublands.
The realm sits as one of several; connected to the Well of possibility, its people diversified by this connection and brought together by the community needed to survive the drought.
Consider the people
If you divided Levis along the lines of immigrants and natives, you might be technically true; but you would be missing the forest for the eucalyptus. While the Foliad, the Trolls and the Nocturne were here first, the demons and the humans have come to the realm and fallen into the same divisions as everyone else - just with a little more baggage. The people of Levis fracture along lines of duty, exploration and magic. And who has access to the excess resources to revel in the exploration of the strange.
With everyone supplied with a garden and a home, the trouble becomes the access to more - to the luxuries that come after the necessities are filled. The world is built around those with the minds to delve into the secrets of the universe, and so the intelligent and adventurous thrive. On the other side is duty - the people themselves value community and so those not dedicated to the universe become bound to those that rest shoulder to shoulder with them. All the people of Levis exist on a spectrum between these two forces, between the mundane of the garden and the marvel of the magic.
Consider the wonder
There is magic in these hills. Where your very emotions create moments of wonder. Where the winds of possibility flow like rivers of power and promise. The small things have spirits, and the large things have gods. And yet religion and open belief are not things allowed to the people of Levis.
Levis is a realm of witches and mages - both those who wield staves and live in universities (locally called academies) and those who live in huts and deliver wisdom to outcasts and those in need. Magic is important to the people, - even to those that do not harness it, for technology often runs off its own magic, and the comfort it brings to the everyday makes life bearable.
Consider the locations
The communities of Levis are their own brand of magic. Whether you consider the independant cities of the middle region, bright stars in a night sky with all their complex politics and trade negotiaion - surrounded by the outposts of life and the smaller towns that season the region.
Whether you consider the Academy city of Natare, or the suspended creature-kin city of Brambleberry or even the last city before the desert that is Saburra.
You could also consider northward. Northeast is the Kingdom of Solaris, brought together by the Dragon King against problems long lost to time. This kingdom is surrounded by a massive cultivated barrier, and at its entrance, structures known as the Infinity Gates.
Northwest lies the Digitos Mangroves, home to smugglers and the new demon raiders that have made this land home.
Further north is Oceanus, full of ports and buccaneers and bright coastal villiages. Beneath the waters here lies the Nocturne Empire - a sprawling wonder of aquatic cephalopod ingenuity.
Consider the boot
The history of Levis is like a boot raised high above the people. Ready to squash them from the past and the future. Like a half squashed bug, the people of Levis have crawled out, damaged but still alive, healing and growing but waiting for the boot to descend again.
From the past, where the boot first descended, comes the not well known of troubles from the human realm of Tyr. Knights and nobles and mining from the depths of the mountains came from the medieval world over 2000 years ago, so long that those in the present do not even know why they fear the mines, or why they would view the average human with distrust should they know that humans walk among them.
From the middle distance, comes the Treaty of Seccularism, a rule so root-bound into society, that the literal transformation of an AI into something more is forced to be see as just a marvel. While this has seen an end to worship bound conflict, the cultural impacts sound across the realm daily.
And now, in the present and just into the early future we have the realms opening, those neighbours felt long distant, by time and by technology, brought closer once again. The safety of isolation shattered as humans reveal they have been here all along in trickles pulled through the fabric of reality. Demons coming through hole ripped through, first as exiles in search of retribution, then as refugees seen as an army and treated as such. Things have settled now, on that front, but demons are full of high emotion, and the realm of humans as they are now is a secret those in Levis are determined to keep.
Consider what comes next
Whether it be the loss of the Artificial Intelligence that used to run Natare, or the exploding information network that is spreading slowly across the realm in a mixture of transmitted data and people power. Or the massive explosions of technology and exploration where before there was shyness to seek the information in acts of taboo knowledge collection. Either way, the way information is stored and shared and passed around is changing. How long until the bard and the archivist and the library catch up? What comes next and how?
Socially the culture of the demons in Levis is at a tipping point too - which the two (technically 3) settlements of demons, and the generation of demons born that have begun to integrate into the places that already existed - these people will have to choose whether they wish to make their own collection of cities, form their own kingdom, or fuse with what came before and gift their customs to the foliads and trolls (and maybe nocturne) that are already here.
The Nocturne have been quiet. With the Whisperling Rebellion out near Avani doing its own breakaway thing, and their show of force in the Second Demon War, there are signs of life from the Empire, but even for the Levis realm, the empire of the sea has remained isolated for too long. Will they join the modern age with open hand, or will the newly blooded people of the land have the next big battle with those from the sea?
The humans are always a threat, and with Thalia Moondance opening the way between realms, the realms are beginning to wake and loom over Levis. For Levis is barely a continent on the planet where it lives, and Tyr is at least a planet of humanity, working for the same goal - whatever that may be. But Levis is green and ripe and full of resources and no human has ever wanted a place like that - even when it has people there already.
Themes and Inspiration
This project is inspired by solarpunk and making the best out of community. Originally inspired by a world concept built by a friend named "The Enchantress", solarpunk slid to biopunk, while the core, that heart of community stays the same. Even if the whimsy she had hoped for slides away as my love of horror and romance takes hold.Injected into the setting came the need to see more Australian inspired fantasy/sci-fi worlds, and a balance between magic and wonder and a realism based in following consequences to their natural conclusion forged from a TTRPG gaming group who enjoy 'obsessive compulsive science'.
In this land you'll also see Japanese inspired elements, especially in the fashion.
While fashion did not start a major element of this world, I have found enjoyment in exploring this element of the world and I hope you enjoy the flickers into that.
Theme Hubs
Within the project, there are several hubs with which you can spoke out from.- Soon: A hub for all those romance texts.
Thank you for reading, feel free to give feedback.

Nice overview. I like the image of a boot hanging over the world and the people attempting to remain in balance.
