Dorsal Island

North of Solaris but south of both NORTH and the Nocturne Empire, Dorsal Island is the last section of land before the realm gives up.

More lost wilderness than island to be claimed, Dorsal Island is part place where evolution goes to cry, and part pirate refuge. This Island is home to flying lizards, and Eastern Grey Seamage, to acquatic chimeras and strange ailback.

It is a highly rocky area, which was once connected to the mainland, long befpre the humans came by. Granite and shale make up the geological makeup of the are, while ancient sands that hint of stories pasts.

Lamiacae Bay hosts the bucaneers of the area, a natural cove with a sweeping coast covered in jetties while a smaller sandbar island that protects the cove from storms.

Geography

Dorsal island is relatively flat, layered in eucalyptus, its ground coverage made up of large black stone and winding pathways.

There is a cove that takes up the east side of the island and is shielded from the rest by a low rising hill. This hill drops off in a sheer face into the cove, and combined withthe sandbar, provides perfect protection for the bucaneers that built the cove into Lamiacae Bay.

Beneath the island sports a massive subterranean freshwater lake. The network of caves that laces between the surface and the lake are moist and teeming with life, providing another layer to the vast ecosystem on this amazing island.

Localized Phenomena

While lacking the large Celestial currents of the mainland, the island still supports enough eddies to make the magic of the island work, there is just little chance of having your magic supercharged.

Mutation and odd adaptions have been recorded as being more common here, maybe in response to the subterranean lake.

Climate

Dorsal Island is on the cyclone formation path. With regular winds running across the face of the island, north to south, warm tropical air regularly pumps the island bringing the scent of adventure from far away.

Unlike most of Levis, Dorsal island is soaked in rain. It is the rainblocker for most of the mainland to the south, being under the rainfall one day every three, even into the 'dry season'.

Fauna & Flora

While the Eastern grey roosts in high places, the rest of the island is forced to have a more ocean level altitudes.

The ecosystem of the island centres on the ailbacks that life there. From parasitic wasps that lay eggs under loose scutes, to hopping marsupials the size of a small child; Dorsal Island's ecosystem is aimed straight at the 3 species of ailback that mount the landmass as home.

Flying Lizards

A thing to know about the various winged lizards of Levis is that despite the name they are mostly gliders. While they do have wings, the sheer weight of these little gals is such that their wings could not produce enough updraft for flight if they tried. - Or so the locals say.
