New Dur'gol
New Dur'gol is a small town located in the south of Elderan, situated on the western banks of Lake Darquin, near the river mouth where Lake Darquin flows into the Rhun River.
New Dur'gol is under the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of Dun'Vol, and is the youngest settlement in Elderan, founded in 2033 AF by survivors of the town of Dur’gol, which was destroyed during the Betrayer War, in a Magical disaster that led to the creation of the Deadwastes. The Kingdom of Dun'Vol was not involved in the Betrayer War, with the destruction of Dur’gol leading to a short period of tensions between the Kingdom of Dun'Vol and both the Kingdom of Lorth'elon and Varin Empire, as the Kingdom of Dun'Vol attempted to uncover who was to blame for the destruction, though no conclusive evidence was ever found to incriminate any side.
Dur’gol was formerly a trade town, located at the border between Elderan and Osirin, with all the trade between the two regions passing through the Dur’gol. Because of this, Dur’gol has a high population of Humans and Half-Dwarves in comparison to the rest of Elderan.
Government
New Dur'gol is governed by a Burgomaster, who is appointed by the Kingdom of Dun'Vol.
Defence
New Dur'gol is defended by a garrison of Stonewatch, the local guard of the Kingdom of Dun'Vol.
Commerce
New Dur'gol has a valuable trade of lumber, which it cultivates from the nearby Rhunwood, being the only settlement in the Kingdom of Dun'Vol with a consistent access to lumber, due to the restrictions around logging trees in the Elderna Woodlands.
New Dur'gol also has a small agricultural industry, cultivating it's nearby farmland, as well as a small fishing industry.
Geography
New Dur'gol is located on the western banks of Lake Darquin, near the river mouth where Lake Darquin flows into the Rhun River, with a small harbour located at the lakefront.
The town itself is a collection of simple, wooden buildings, centred around a prominent memorial, dedicated to those lost in the destruction of Dur'gol, a large statue on witch is carved the names of the dead.
The surrounding outskirts of New Dur'gol are filled with a few acres of farmland, both for crops and grazing animals, with a couple of lumber mills located near the border of the Rhunwood.
Notable Locations
Dur'gol Memorial
Located at the centre of town is a large stone statue, depicting a Dwarven mother carrying two children. The woman is identified as Birgitta, a citizen of Dur'gol, who is said to have passed away at the very location of the statue, after carrying her two children away from the irradiated ruins of their old home on the outskirts of Dur'gol. Memorialised at the base of the statue is her name, as well as a list of names of those that died in the destruction of Dur'gol, their names carved into the stone.
