M-50SD Ghostlace

M-50SD Ghostlace

Black-market delayed-collapse interdiction net

Classification

Non-lethal interdiction and asset denial device
Derived from expired M-50 patents and modified through illicit firmware chains

Primary Role

• Drone capture
• Corridor denial
• Vehicle immobilization
• Covert perimeter traps
• Sensor suppression

Overview

The Ghostlace is a stealth-optimized variant of the original M-50 smart canister. Instead of deploying a high-energy cutting lattice, it projects a monomolecular-strength but non-cutting cryspoly filament mesh reinforced with carbon nanothreads and conductive polymer strands. The mesh is designed to entangle, immobilize, and electronically overwhelm targets rather than slice them.

It deploys silently, adheres to surfaces, and remains dormant until triggered by motion, heat, EM emissions, or timed activation.

Deployment Characteristics

Caliber
50 mm caseless smart canister

Weight
1.8 kg loaded

Range
Up to 40 meters from standard 50 mm launcher

Bloom Pattern
1.5 m x 1.5 m net (standard)
Optional black-market firmware allows asymmetric bloom (wider horizontal spread)

Filament Type
• Carbon nanotube reinforced cryspoly
• Conductive polymer strands for localized EMP pulse
• Non-cutting monofilament tension weave

Activation Modes

• Motion trigger
• Heat signature trigger
• EM signature trigger (useful against drones)
• Delayed timer (5 seconds to 4 hours)
• Remote activation via encrypted short-range signal

Delayed-Collapse Mechanism

The mesh deploys and anchors into surfaces via micro barbs. It remains loose and nearly invisible, resembling stray fiber or debris.

Once triggered:

  1. The mesh contracts rapidly.
  2. Conductive strands discharge a short-range localized EMP burst calibrated to disable small electronics.
  3. Filaments tighten around mechanical components, rotors, wheels, or limbs.

Targets are immobilized rather than cut apart.

Against Personnel

The Ghostlace is marketed as “capture capable.”
It can entangle and restrain a human, but is not intended to cause dismemberment. Injuries typically result from falls or panic rather than the device itself.

Against Drones

Highly effective.
The contraction and EMP discharge typically disable small rotorcraft instantly.

Against Vehicles

Effective against light ground vehicles, bikes, and small utility bots. Less effective against armored units.

Stealth Profile

• Matte black low-reflectivity canister
• Subsonic bloom
• No visible muzzle flash
• Filaments treated with light-absorbing nano coating
• Thermal signature minimized

When deployed, the mesh is difficult to see unless backlit or dusted.

Manufacture

Original Patent Lineage

Mars-based defense manufacturer Valles Marineris Tactical Systems (expired patents)

Current Black-Market Producers

• Null Basilica workshops (First City, Chendiuria)
• Erosian Basalt Cartel fabrication cells
• Io fringe dock machine shops

Firmware modifications often differ by producer.

Cost

Legitimate expired-patent base M-50 frame
12,000–18,000 credits (legal industrial version)

Ghostlace Black-Market Variant
28,000–45,000 credits per canister depending on firmware sophistication

Asymmetric bloom firmware upgrade
+7,000 credits

Extended timer firmware
+3,000 credits

Known Users

• Corporate security teams operating in gray zones
• Wealthy Eighth Terrace estate owners for perimeter defense
• Drone-hunting mercenary outfits
• Smugglers protecting cargo corridors
• pit-fighters for arena denial setups

LOAC Status

Technically Law of Armed Conflict "LOAC" compliant when configured for anti-drone or capture roles.
Frequently misused in urban environments.

Failure Modes

• Filament degradation in high heat
• EMP discharge drains power cell prematurely
• Poor anchor penetration in polished cryspoly corridors
• Firmware bugs in cheaper clones can cause premature collapse

Reputation

Among operators, the Ghostlace is known as:

“Spider’s Mercy”
“Quiet Snare”
“Black Veil”

In street slang:

“Sleep Web”

It carries a reputation for clean captures in the hands of professionals and ugly panic scenes when deployed in crowded environments.
