Mana Inhibition

Dunamopause

Mana Inhibition, known medically as Dunamopause, is a collective term for conditions of the Mana System that prevent or restrict the flow of Mana. It is a term used when the specific cause of the Inhibition is not known or is still being investigated. Dunamopausal (Mana Inhibiting) Conditions include Mana Cessation, Pool Occlusion, and Bradydunamikatharsis.

Mana Inhibiting Conditions can target all parts of the Dunamic System, resulting in spellcasting inhibitions or outright failures. While they are not necessarily deadly in and of themselves, they can lead to other conditions that are, and so identifying the specific type of Mana Inhibition is critical in the treatment of such conditions. Conversely, Mana Inhibition can also be forced in order to treat other types of Dunamic Condition such as Mana Overload, where Pool Occlusion is a common forced inhibitive remedy.

Mana Inhibiting Conditions are considered relatively common due to their use as remedies, though they are typically less common occurrences on their own.

Causes

Mana Inhibition can be naturally occurring or forced conditions. Naturally occurring conditions can by triggered by any number of events, such as external influences disrupting the normal flow or operation of the Mana System, or internal safeguards of the Mana System triggering a rapid reflex response.

Forced conditions are normally triggered on purpose by the individual or by another, usually a rival spellcaster attempting to gain an upper hand in battle. The most common form of forced conditions is the intentional inhibition of the Mana System in order to treat another Mana Condition.

Treatment

Treatment methods for Mana Inhibition vary depending on the type of Inhibiting Condition. For example, Pool Occlusion is typically a forced condition and is therefore left to remedy itself, while Mana Cessation requires a more involved treatment plan.

Prognosis

Outcomes of Mana Inhibition can vary depending on the type of Inhibition and the severity of the condition. While many Inhibitions can be fully recovered from, some can lead to further complications, such as Mana Rot, which may impact quality of life, or in extreme circumstances even lead to death.

Affected Groups

Mana Inhibition can occur in any creature with a Mana System of any form, including Spiritual Cores. It is most commonly seen in Mages, Sorcerers, Witches, Clerics, and Druids, but can (and often will) impact any and all spellcasters, even if it is only Innate Magic.
