Mana Rot

Dunaminecrosis

Dunaminecrosis, known in Common as Mana Rot, is a series of conditions characterised by the deterioration and breakdown of the various organs of the Mana System. Rather than being a single diagnostic condition, Mana Rot is an umbrella term for a variety of disorders that can be stand-alone, or can signify a great issue. Mana Rot can both cause and be caused by various other conditions with both exacerbating the other, including Mana Bloat and Bradydunamikatharsis.

Mana Rot has three main types:

  • Vesicanecrosis - also known as Pool Rot, and targets the Mana Pool
  • Dunavasonecrosis - known as Mana Vessel Rot, targeting the Mana Vessels
  • Dunathrinecrosis - known as Channel Rot and targeting the Weave Channel

The Exdunathric Systems (Spellcasting Vessels) are typically not subjected to Mana Rot due to the rapid cycle of formation and breakdown that naturally occurs.

Mana Rot is considered a rare Dunamic Condition, but can occur within anyone with a Mana System. It is not considered fatal in those that are not of an Innately magical heritage, but can prove to be so in those that are, such as Elves, Ginnaya, and Changelings, if left untreated. Additionally, leaving Mana Rot untreated can result in Pandunamostasis (Complete Mana Shutdown), followed by Pandunamilysis (Complete Mana Breakdown) and eventually Dunamicide (Mana Death - the complete and irreversible breakdown of the Dunamic System), which renders a person incapable of using magic. This is why Mana Rot is considered serious for innately magical beings, as the loss of magic within their system can lead to Mania, Psychosis, Psychotic Shock, and ultimately death.

Causes

Mana Rot can be caused by a number of different conditions, though can also occur spontaneously, and is normally caused by repeated irritation in the Mana System.
