Bradydunamikatharsis
Bradydunamikatharsis, typically known as BDK and occasionally known in Common as Purification Inhibition, is a condition whereby the Mana System's purification of raw mana slows down and prevents the refilling of the Mana Pool. For most, Bradydunamikatharsis is a non-life-threatening condition that typically clears up on its own or with the assistance of readily available medicines. In rare cases, it can slow the refilling of the Mana Pool so much that the sufferer may experience other Dunamopausal Conditions, such as Dunamostasis; exertion conditions such as Hypodunamia; or in the worst case scenario, Pandunamostasis.
BDK is a Dunamopausal Condition that specifically impairs the Katharsic Dunamocytes (Dunamic Purification Cells) of the Prevesical Dunamivascular System, specifically the Mesodunamivasa (Middle Dunamic Vessels). The condition prevents the Katharsic Dunamocytes from purifying raw Mana efficiently, meaning that it cannot be filtered into the Postkatharsic Dunamivasa and, by extension, into the Mana Pool. In severe occurrences, BDK can cause a weakening of the Postkatharsic Filter, which allows raw Mana into the Mana Pool and can lead to additional complications.
Relatively uncommon, BDK typically only affects 1 in 3000 susceptible people and is generally considered non-fatal. Most cases of BDK are put down to exhaustion, stress, or other mental and physical fatigue conditions causing a temporary destabilisation of the Mana System. However, some cases of BDK have proven to be symptoms of a much larger problem, or have led to additional problems that can then become fatal. In instances where BDK lasts for longer than a month, it is highly recommended that a Medical Dunamic Specialist be consulted as a precaution.
Causes
The majority of Bradydunamikatharsis cases are attributed to physical and/or mental fatigue or stress. It is most often observed in those that work long hours, particularly within magical environments, and do not get enough sleep. Excessive strain on the Mana System can also cause temporary BDK.
Additionally, BDK can be brought upon by other, more serious conditions, such as Dunaminecrosis or Dunamangiolysis.
Symptoms
The single symptom of BDK is the lack of replenishment of the Mana Pool, even after resting. This usually manifests as a feeling of magical emptiness that is easily recognisable by those familiar with spellcasting, but may be overlooked by those new to it.
Treatment
Bradydunamikatharsis is typically treated with rest, plenty of fluids, and abstinence from spellcasting. Most cases of BDK will go away by themselves so long as the Mana System is not strained.
More serious cases may require intervention with potions and further examination to rule out any additional conditions.
BDK can by bypassed by the use of Mana Potions, however the repeated use of these can cause dependency and is not recommended for long periods of time.
Prognosis
Most cases of BDK are not fatal, though some more serious cases can be symptoms for other conditions, or can lead to other conditions if they are ignored for too long. Typically, BDK that lasts for more than a month is considered serious and should be checked out for additional illnesses.
Sequela
Serious cases of BDK can trigger or exacerbate other Mana-Flow Conditions, such as Dunamostasis and Hypodunamia. In rare instances, BDK can lead to Pandunamostasis and result in death, though reports of this occurring are less than 1 in 500,000.
