The Observatory

Almahna Academy - Top Floor

The Observatory stands at the very tip of the pyramid structure, surrounded by glass walls. You get up into it by climbing a steep staircase on the top floor of the pyramid, and as you climb up here, the first thing you notice is a large partition wall standing in the centre of the room, effectively dividing the room into two rooms. One half is devoted to astronomy, and the other is dedicated to astrology. Offset from the right-hand side of the wall is a door connecting the two halves. But the first thing you are awestruck by is the splendor of the view through the glass walls, as you look out over all of Calrune below.

Purpose / Function

This room actually is divided into two and serves a dual purpose, for two very different classrooms for two very different subjects, yet both use the stars. One classroom is devoted to astronomy, and the other is dedicated to astrology. So one can say these two subjects are actually the same, yet different at the same time, pursuing the stars for very different ends.

Design

The Observatory is a wonderful and amazing feat of engineering, where each of the slanted four walls of this room, which are actually two rooms, is a single pane of glass, over an inch thick. In the centre of the room is a partition wall dividing the room into two classrooms, one for astrology and the other for astronomy. Offset from the centre of the wall, toward the right-hand side of the wall, is a door allowing entry between the two.

Entries

There is only a single entry into this room, the small, steep staircase leading down to the Top Floor landing. Offset from the centre of the wall is also a door allowing passage between the astronomy and astrology classrooms.

Sensory & Appearance

There are no lights in this room, with all of the light coming strictly through the glass window walls. Each classroom feels small and cozy, yet the view through the glass walls is immense.

Denizens

Typically, you will find students here as well as the two professors for astrology and astronomy.

Contents & Furnishings

In each classroom here, there are layers with several student desks lining the partition wall, up to the door, as well as a large number of telescopes and other starwatching gear.
