Spellcasting Impotence
Dunamic Expulsion Disfunction
Spellcasting Impotence, known in Dunamic Medicine as Dunamic Expulsion Disfunction, is a form of Spellcasting Vessel Abnormality that occurs when signals from the Weave Channel fail to reach the Spellcasting Trigger Cells to activate the Spellcasting System. This is typically as a result of damage or disruption to the Weave Channel Transmitter Dunamocytes or to the Spellcasting Receptor Dunamocytes.
While not fatal, Spellcasting Impotence can be massively problematic for those whose Vocations revolve around spellcasting, and dangerous if it occurs under stressful situations. It can lead to other Dunamic conditions, such as Mana Leakage or Postvesical Mana Cessation, which can severely impact on spellcasting ability. It can also lead to more serious conditions such as Exdunathricide, and complications arising from the condition can lead to further complications in the Weave Channel, such as Weave Channel Deformation.
Spellcasting Impotence is one of the more common SVA conditions, as it can be triggered spontaneously during Combat Casting, overexuberant spellcasting, or high pressure situations. This is typically a benign situation that resolves itself within minutes to an hour, though some more severe instances can last much longer. Chronic or long-last Spellcasting Impotence is considered much more severe, and requires the attention of a Medical Dunamologist.
Causes
Spellcasting Impotence occurs due to a failure or disruption in the Transmitter Dunamocytes of the Weave Channel or Receptor Dunamocytes of the Spellcasting Vessels. These failures or disruptions can be caused by a number of factors, including raw Mana exposure, a spellcasting miscalculating, or contact with Dunamic Anomalies.
Symptoms
Typically characterised by spellcasting becoming less efficient or failing altogether, Spellcasting Impotence also causes minor feedback shocks within the area of the body that the spellcasting is focused into at the time of the failure, such as through the hands or feet. This typically causes sensations similar to a static shock, and often results in "sparks" of escaping Mana being visible for a moment.
Treatment
Acute Spellcasting Impotence typically resolves itself within minutes to an hour of the incident occurring, and therefore does not require any medical intervention.
Chronic or prolonged episodes require intervention to identify the cause of the disruption and remove it, or to repair the damaged Dunamocytes. Repairs of this nature typically involve forced Mana Breakdown of the impacted parts of the Postvesical System so that the damaged Dunamocytes can be replaced with completely fresh ones. This process can only be completed by a skill Medical Dunamologist, as performing the process incorrectly can lead to irreparable damage to the system, or even full Dunamicide of the impacted area.
Prognosis
While Spellcasting Impotence is not fatal, and will typically resolve itself without additional issue with adequate rest and the correct treatment, repeated instances in a short time span, or episodes that do not resolve within the treatment span, can lead to additional complications.
Sequela
Prolonged or chronic instances of Spellcasting Impotence can lead to complications such as Mana Leakage or Postvesical Mana Cessation. These conditions are typically non-fatal, but can add additional difficulties and complications to recovery. In rare occasions, Spellcasting Impotence can lead to the complete failure of the Spellcasting System, resulting in Exdunathricide and the complete inability to cast non-innate spells.
While Spellcasting Impotence does not have a direct impact on the Weave Channel, it can lead to strain on the Weave Channel that results in additional complications and conditions of that particular organ, such as Dunathraparesis (Weave Channel Weakness), or Dunathrectasis (Weave Channel Deformation).
Affected Groups
Spellcasting Impotence occurs in those that are born with a Weave Channel, thus it impacts the majority of spellcasters with a full Dunamic System. Within specific Vocations, it does not affect Witches, who are born without a Weave Channel, nor does it impact Pact Keepers, who do not possess a Dunamic System at all.
