Sunken Isles

In a place where the realm refused to go for most of prehistory, the isles are a natural place for those who wish to hide or rebel.

In the north west of the Levis continental zone, exist the island chain of the Sunken Isles. Prehistoric volcanic eruptions formed this area into the island chain, with each swaddled in a dense canopy of tall, dense-wooded hardwood trees. Massive chains of roots from these unique trees form a chainway between many of the isles, growing symbiotically with the reeds of the region in a hairy tangled mess that prohibits most surface travel directly between these islets.
On the largest isle is the city of Avani. It is the largest port city in Levis, sitting on a trade current that makes visiting it the easiest way to ship product across the region.
While technically within the waters of Oceanus, the Sunken Isles deem their own sovereignty and culture. With the Grand Whisperling Rebellionpopulating the northern isles of the chain and falling under their own unique breed of self governance, their influence on Avani means that the port city is eyeing doing the same.

Geography

Each of the isles has a dormant or semi dormant volcano in its centre, with several atol on the bottom chain of the isles where several of the more energetic volcano once stood.
The water between the isles is relatively shallow, though the chain drops off to deep ocean fairly quickly.

History

The isles have always been a place to get away to. When Avani was formed, the islands almost seemed to tug the mages and explorers to them, the rift a pulsing form of possibility.
From that moment though, both Solaris and the Nocturne Empire have seen in their hearts that the islands are theirs. Even when the Grand Whisperling Rebellion was formed. With the rivalry of Dorsal Island....
