Angels

Angels (Ángeloi), sometimes just called Celestials, are the predominant Celestial species, natives to the Plane of the Heavens, and intimately tied to the Plane. Angels are also divinely blessed with innate Celestial power and Divine Magic.

Angels make up the bulk of the Armies of the Heavens and serve at the behest of the Pantheon as their most loyal servants. Angels often serve as Divine Heralds or as instruments of Divine retribution, particularly after the formation of the Divine Gate.

Angels are said to follow orders without question, and perceive the world through a strict doctrine of good or evil. Angels also generally lack much personality or emotion outside of feelings of loyalty and a desire for justice.

The Angel population is relatively small in comparison to the populations of other Extraplanar forces, such as the Fae or Devils, but on average the weakest Angels tend to much more powerful than your average creature, with a single Angelic Steward speculated to be equivalent to 10 Mortal soldiers.

Origin

Angels are believe to be the creation of the Primordial Deity Khronos, designed in the Gods image to serve as their loyal servants and soldiers. It is said that the Angels were created during the early years of Creation to replace the hastily made and flawed Devils, the original Army of the Heavens, after they betrayed the Gods and claimed dominion over the Hells.

Appearance

Angels are humanoid in appearance with pristine, muscular bodies, flawless and luminous skin, radiant, glowing eyes, halos of holy light that float above their heads, and glowing feathered wings that extend from their backs.

It is said that Angels take on a humanoid or familiar form as not to scare Mortals, for Angels in their natural state are very abstract in appearance.

Complexion: Angel skin is unnatural, with porcelain, ivory, marble-like, bronze, silvery, golden or even copper green coloured. Angel skin is almost always pristine, flawless and luminous, radiating a faint glow. Their skin is also known to have faint markings across it, or to even glimmer or sparkle.

Hair: Angel hair is usually a shade of grey or white, but it can also be a shade of blonde or brown. Angel hair is said to naturally glimmer or sparkle.

Eyes: Angel eyes tend to be of a gold or silver colour, said to be both pupilless and to glow with radiant light.

Wings: Angels have luminous, feathered wings that are usually a shade of white or gold. But sometimes their wings can be of a metallic colouring, or even flickering with radiant fire.

Biology

Ageless. Angels do not age and are born fully formed, but they can be killed, their bodies exploding in a burst of radiant light.

Angelic Resilience. Angels are all resistant or immune to Radiant damage, and can not be magically Charmed or Frightened. They are also incredibly resistant to disease and illness.

Divine Magic. Angels all posses innate Divine Magic, allowing them to cast an array of Spells. They are usually particularly versed in Healing Magic.

Divine Restoration. If an Angel is ever killed within the Heavens, they will almost immediately begin to reform within the Archonad, at the heart of the Heavens. After a long process the Angel returns to their full strength, with all their memories intact. Angels only die permanently if they are killed outside of the Heavens, or they are killed during their reformation process. Archangels are supposedly the exception to this rule, and can reform even if they are killed outside of the Heavens.

Divine Senses. Most Angels have enhanced vision that allows them to see clearly in darkness, including magical darkness, see invisible creatures and even see through illusions. Angels also always know when they hear a creature lying.

Magic Resistance. Most Angels are naturally resistance to Magic, with Spells and similar Magical effects having difficulty effecting them.

Reproduction. Angels can not reproduce. Angels are naturally formed over centuries within the Plane of the Heavens, born fully formed within the Archonad. Angels can also be created through the ascension of Mortal Souls, a reward for the chosen of the Gods, so they may continue to serve in Death.

Sex & Gender. Angels are sexless creatures, with no notion of gender within their society. Many Angels are also capable of changing their appearance at will, fluidly shifting between masculine, feminine or androgynous forms, though some will stick to a a favoured presentation.

Unchanging. Angels are unchanging beings, they do not posses Souls or Free Will, and are incapable of acting out of character or reinventing themselves.

Unnatural Nature. Angels don't need to eat, drink, or breathe. Instead of sleeping, Angels enter a meditation-like state to rest, in which they are fully conscious.

Hierarchy

All Angels are organised into a strict, military caste system with a very strict chain of command, following their superiors loyally without pause or question. Angels are also created to serve a role and do not receive promotions or demotions.

Angels also serve the Pantheon, who supersede the Angelic hierarchy, with Khronos, whom they call the Arkhe, being their ultimate authority.

The Angelic hierarchy system is believed to be the following:

1. Steward

A majority of Angels encompass the rank of Steward. They are quite powerful Lesser Idols that primarily serve as the retainers and messengers of the Gods. It times of war or conflict the Stewards make up the majority of the Armies of the Heavens' soldiers.

2. Sentinel

Sentinels are Greater Idols that primarily serve as guardians and sentinels, charged with protecting both the Divine Planes of the Heavens and Olympus. Sentinels are also sometimes said to be sent by the Gods to watch over significant events or important Mortals, and tasked to intercede on the Gods behalf if necessary.

Sentinels are differentiated from other Angels by having a pair of additional wings that extend from the side of their head. Some reports also claim that Sentinels have numerous eyes on their wings, but this is unconfirmed.

3. Discipline

Disciplines are powerful Greater Idols that often serve as the trusted aide to certain Deities, occasionally acting on their behalf. But Disciplines are primarily the predominant warriors of the Heavens, whom in times of war, lead a Heavenly host of Stewards and Sentinels into battle.

Disciplines are differentiated from other Angels by having fiery halos above their heads. They are also often armoured and wield weapons that burn with holy fire.

Reportedly, in times of peace, Disciplines are said to spend their time in a state of restful contemplation, awaiting the call of battle. Disciplines are also sometimes sent by the Gods to vanquish their most vile enemies.

4. Paragon

Paragons are 7 of the most powerful Angels and lead the Armies of the Heavens. Paragons are powerful Quasi-Deities, classed as Archangels. The Paragons serve the Arkhe, the Primordial Deity Khronos. The affairs and duties of the Paragons are unknown.

Paragons are differentiated from other Angels by having four feathered wings instead for two.

The Paragons each represent one of the seven Divine virtues: Charity, Courage, Hope, Justice, Piety, Prudence, and Temperance. The Paragons are the following:
