Ormpur

Ormpur stands at the eastern tip of the Shining Sea. To the southeast are the mountains called the Wyrmbones. To the north lies the Lake of Steam.

The tale of the city's rulers is a sad one. It was governed through the late 14th Century by the High Suikh Helbareim, whose daughter disappeared. Helbareim nearly destroyed his kingdom and himself attempting to find her. Dragon cults and yuan-ti took advantage, manipulating the High Suikh for their own advantage, and by the late 15th century Ormpur was a shadow of its former self. Anarchy finally claimed the city when three rival claimants to the throne tore the city apart in a civil war, and the Church of Tiamat moved in to establish its twisted notion of order.

Then Khelben Blackstaff arrived. He single-handedly destroyed the dragon cults, rallied any free-thinking locals, and began setting up magic schools and universities. He made peace with the local elves and druids. And he established magical industry - not anything that could rival powerhouses in the multiverse such as Sharn, but enough to outfit his militia with high quality equipment that was easy to use.

Today, Ormpur trades in spice, especially Saffron, and magical potions and items. It imports food, rare herbs, Sungwood, and high quality weapons and armor for enchanting. It mines Pyroxine stone, but consumes most of it. And it trains wizards and soldiers to resist the Divine Order, as it becomes clear the Order isn't going to halt its crusade with Thay...
