The Edged Lands
An enormous area in the center of Noress known for being actively hostile to civilization. Not people, necessarily, but structure, architecture, it just does not abide attempts to tame it.
Created in 3700ish, maybe 3800ish, I'm working on it, but it was because of the Elseeans trying to make their way up the Ilsum and Rothin rivers inland. As the feral folk that lived there already didn't appreciate this--they'd been protecting it on all the other sides by laxly kept agreements that left the land for them. So with the new invaders (Mostly humans, who had gotten pretty populous in Elsee), they were busy, and so more of the others were encroaching. It wasn't good. Yeah, the feral folk could hold off everyone with guerilla tactics as needed, could outgather if they had to--but this was all at once, and without internal organization, there was only going to be so much they could do.
As Noress has been the fountain of Primordial Magic that it is, the feral folk and their relationship with the land has connected a shitload of them to it, consciously or unconsciously, they were called to gather in a valley and 'inspired' to cast a spell that empowered the predatorial spirits and made their presence so thick over the place that people that travel through the area are affected and basically 'made' wild.
Tamed and domestic beasts would rebel and escape. Humans are more prone to pack behavior and self-selecting groups and it leads to a breakdown in the usual cooperation that makes humans normally such a problem to others. Most of the people that lived there were already used to functioning in those circumstances and conditions.
The border is practically tangible. The wilderness was pushed in until it condensed, and now that it's locked in place, you can feel the difference like diving into warm water. One's hair will stand on edge, paranoia and anxiety are not uncommon, panting and a pounding heart are relatively normal. Most of the symptoms will go away after a day.
Trying to erect anything more permanent than a tent is a mistake. (You can actually ask permission, but no one does that. Everyone that knows this doesn't want to build anything permanent and everyone that wants to build something permanent doesn't know to ask.)
