We had a dinner appointment with Admiral Thrawn... at a cantina off Spacer's Row (the Whispering Fountain)... in about two hours.
Captain Koleen acquired a respectable payment for her shipping services, and found that the Black Hat pirates were the ones causing local merchants to be forced toward the local black market where they must pay triple prices even for legitimate goods.
We took the available time to explore our primary reason for travelling here: Crimson Knights Commander Ivana Maeques sent a video message to Crimson Knight Errant, Davish Tam, regarding the old jedi ruins nearby, founded in perhaps pre-republic times, maybe a thousand years old.
We chartered a "vanspeeder" tour of the ancient jedi temple. (The Dantooine Town is a growing outpost with a Travelers' Aid Society. Vanya checked with the local TAS office while I bought a fun Dantooine Refrigerator magnet that shows a hologram of a local carnivorous plant.)
Our tour guide told us many interesting tidbits and anecdotes: Supposedly, Kyber crystals were found here, found in the eggs of certain cave-dwelling Kinwrath (Kinraths, or Netcasters were yellow spider-like creatures usually found deep within forests). Plus there is a reactivated Stargate to Yavin 4.
The temple had 4 towers, oddly like a trapezoidal shape, not round at all like many Jedi temples. The Math said loudly that one standing in the center of the temple would be able to look straight up to commune directly with The Math. I had to snap some pix with my datapad. I would have to show them to my Cohort Auditor whenever he finds me.
Meanwhile, back at the camp, Captain Koleen researched that a drug like "Spice" is available here. Black Sun mixes Sapho juice with Smash to make a powdered "enlightening" illicit drug. They also checked out the four cantinas: The Packing Crate Cantina, The Pillars of the Force (Hooters), and The Whispering Fountain which appeared likely to be Admiral Thrawn's favorite.
Our tour guide noted that the theory was that the Sith attempted to wipe out this temple, so if we had a Vor hunting for kyber crystals, he might find a bad one.
While he spoke mostly to Vanya, I evaded the tour guide's attention and went exploring and collecting parts to manufacture TWO new shield belts. I immediately crossed into the well placarded areas in which visitors and tourists were not allowed. I found a nice ancient work table to start work. My hand naturally landed on a concealed drawer which opened with perfect ergonomic comfort for a human-type person such as myself. I found in the drawer, an electronic device lacking a power source, many bits of copper wire, and a dusty ornate gift box. I pulled all of the items of interest onto the top of the worktable, The latched box opened easily and revealed an ornate crystalline and metal pyramid. I dusted it off to get a better look at its ornamentation by rubbing it three times with my handkerchief.
A blueish hologrammatic image erupted from the pyramid. He appeared to be a Duros, who claimed to be named, Felseir Stempig. He had "slept" for a long time, judging by the ruined and dusty state of the temple, he said. He was a very amiable fellow. I complimented his architects, and said I was looking for a place of maximum inspiration to assemble a shield belt. He took me by the shoulder and happily toured to exactly that central meditative chamber of which he was familiar.
Then blasters fired at us.
Vanya announced on our ear-comms (basically) that the temple was under attack, and that Danar Vorpadaran and his lady friend should activate the temple's force shields. From their intense study of Jedi Quest action adventure episodes, (of which one was set in this location), they did exactly that, with perhaps a bit more flourishes than was truly necessary, but without wasting significant time.
Perhaps it was one of the archeologists who shouted that pirates were attacking. At that, Davish Tam picked out a good defensible area which fortunately happened to be the room which the archeologists had been studying, so it was fairly easy for us to take/fall-back to a tactical advantage.
So, in lieu of returning fire, Vorpadaran hired the pirates to provide him a very rare Jedi Quest artifact which they had been hoping to sell on the black market to just such a wealthy person as him. His lady friend knocked them unconscious (at Vanya's prompting) leaving only the pirates outside the temple to fetch the valuable artifact from their communal treasure hoard with no obligation to share the profits with their somewhat fallen comrades.
Almon and I took the two children and my holographic acquaintance to a meditation chamber and library for our/their safety while we awaited the end of the violence/festivities.
Vanya talked with a feline lady bounty hunter / outlaw tech, Tokis Nindon, who was attempting to attack also and got some information. She made a deal for them to hold off for 24 hours and consult their current employer about unusual events like Admiral Thrawn being on planet.
The pirates outdoors met with the force of Captain Kolleen and Trooper Hicks coming to our rescue.
They found us in the library, after we had taught the children an important skill.
