Arrival on Dantooine
We are assigned parking pad 47. The Starrise Falcon is assigned parking pad 30.
That's a Thrawn.
This directory claims that all the guided tours stick to Dantu-town, don't go out to the old Jedi Temple.
I can fix that.
I go to the Travelers' Aid Society office and explain that I wish to pay for a couple hours' time from
- an archaology student
- who is inclined to infodump
- who always has to stop talking before they have satisfied the infodump urge
- who can infodump about the local old Jedi Temple and other local architecture, prestigious AND forgotten
- who is comfortable with a group of eight, of varying ages, from a diverse set of cultural backgrounds
Cassian Tagger, Bothan archaology student, will meet us at the Vanspeeder rental place!
Cassian Tagger's archaeology overview as we travel toward the old Jedi Temple:
Dantu-Town gets most of its traffic through the old gate at the far side of town. It was dormant for a long time. It reactivated at the end of the Galactic Civil War. It only lets you go to Yavin IV, but it's been a fair side route of trade.
Dantu-Town citizens mostly do NOT want to turn into a large city, or a focus of galactic attention.
With the Jedi Temple, we'll start there. It's four to five thousand years od, supposedly a secret temple built by the Jedi.
Story has it that it was built before the Jedi Civil War. It was kept secret for reasons no one knows. Rumors say that if students of the Force didn't get a master, they got brought here and were trained by Jedi in this temple.
It's a big complex, and it was bombed heavily during the Jedi Civil War and then again later durnig a few other conflicts.
Occasionally someone will find bits of technology. People keep claiming that they know someone who found an old lightsaber. Cassian has not seen any of it.
Records indicate it was founded here bc kyber crystals were found here on Dantooine. There's a creature here on the planet called a "kinrath" and the crystals grow inside the eggs. No one has been eager to study this too much, that Cassian has heard. Apparently the cave dwelling kinrath have kyber crystals grow inside the eggs as part of the life cycle of the kinrath.
The site of the temple is indeed massive, but has definitely been bombed. It is fallen in at parts, and has been blasted in spots. It had a round disc structure. The towers are trapezoidal looking chonkers.
As we approach, the ambient Force here is much more intense -- and while there is some Darkness, the Light vastly outpaces it.
Cassian reports some areas are marked by the university as safe for visitors. Everyone is intrigued to get a ground level look.
Which is interrupted by blaster fire off the upper walls.
They had not planned for a couple of Jedi Quest fans figuring out how to turn on the temple shield emitters.
They had not planned for a High Vor Jedi Quest fan opening negotiations for them to postpone their raid until after our tour, and while they are chatting, to inquire after any "artifacts" or "limited edition Jedi Quest merchandise" that they might have acquired on a previoous raid.
They certainly had not planned for the High Vor Lord to be playing Boy Distraction while his Void Widow fiancee infiltrates their position.
Now I'm holding Danar's camera, filming their subdual of all rooftop parties, as a memento of their first date.
Even the Dark Side of the Force is asking "what just happened?!?"
On my way to back up Aerena and Hicks outside the temple, I encounter two high tech bounty hunters. Tokis Nindon, extremely well equipped outlaw tech, proudly agrees that her gear is from Corporate Sector.
After I peel off her forearm-and-gauntlet droid control stuff with my saber, we wind up negotiating a 24 hour truce. During this time, Nindon will send a highly coded message by indirect route back to her employer, requesting clarification on the order given that (A), Thrawn is definitely here; and (B), Nindon will not be giving refunds. Meanwhile, I will use my own methods to attempt to determine whether the Commander of the Crimson Knights hid something in the Jedi Temple or anywhere on this planet.
When the 24 hours are up, either we will have a satisfactory exchange, or else all civility is off; and Nindon will be the one to make that choice.
What was not mentioned in this deal is that if I can figure out a place where, in fact, Commander Maeques hid something? I'm sending the rest of the party to use Maximum Sneak to acquire it safely, button the location back up, and leave an empty cache or even a false trail for this Corporate Sector client to claim.
