Dear diary,
After a few days of good old fashioned crossing the planes south of Latebra Velora, and hiking through the woods, we arrived at the edge of the territory now called Arca Valon. The weather steadily improved, but I quickly realised that this was due to the influence of the feywild. The barrier between the realms is so thin here, that one needs to be careful to not accidently step across the threshold. As soon as we crossed the border into Arca Valon, we were greeted by some elven guards. Their leader, a man named Thalcor, asked why we were there, and when we replied with who we were and that we were there to improve relations, he led us to the center of their lands.
It took a few more hours of walking before we reached their….village. It really is not much more than that at this point. A small number of wooden dwellings built around an ancient stone portal. The runes on it are easily recognisable as those connected to the feywild, but at the moment we arrived, it was inactive. Thalcor led us to the biggest building, its ground floor made over stone, but craftily covered with wood, and led us inside and to the top floor.
Inside we were brought into a vast room, the center dominated by a large table covered in maps and charts. At the opposite end stood a throne, on which sat the leader of the town, an elf who was introduced as king Eldrinthas. Gael, his noble heritage seeping through more and more, stepped forward and introduced us. Repeating why we had come to Arca Valon. Eldrinthas welcomed us, but expressed his surprise at us coming there personally, seeing as these things are usually left to messengers and ambassadors. But to make a good impression, after I had been in contact with them via messages, we explained that we had decided to come in person, which he seemed to appreciate.
When we asked him a bit more about his people and why they had set up a settlement here, he explained that they were not part of the Neverhold. At the moment they remain neutral towards king Ulther. Once upon a time the high king had attempted to attack their hold in the feywild, but had been soundly defeated. Their kingdom, Valanoris, is large and powerful and to them the Neverhold is only a small domain.
About Keralon they know very little. Seeing as they have had no contact, and very little information, I shared what we knew. That king Ulther has been posing as its king for a hundred years now and is planning on dragging Keralon into the feywild. I could see the concern in the eyes of king Eldrinthas at this news. He nodded and immediately sent for a messenger, saying this news needed to be brought to his kingdom immediately.
He then turned back to us and asked if we think we can succeed in our rebellion. The honest answer is, we don’t know. He nodded in understanding. They too have no army to spare for us, but they are more than willing to trade in supplies, and more importantly, information. I asked if he could tell us about potential allies we could find in the feywild. Enemies of king Ulther and the like. He nodded and promised to see what he could do.
We then said our goodbyes to king Eldrinthas and were led to a nearby house where we could rest for the night. The rest of the evening we spent wandering around the settlement, talking to the villagers and sampling the food. It became quickly apparent that most of them dislike, or at least distrust humans, treating us as outsiders. I can understand them, I feel the same about most fey creatures after all.
That night Luke had another visit from his former mentor Anaya. Sort of anyway. He woke up in the middle of the night, noticing a chair in his room that hadn’t been there before. On it lay a note saying “sit down”. When he did, brave and foolish as he is, he reappeared in his own library, brought there by Anaya. She claimed to have recovered the Heart of Primal Air, the one we were still lacking, and that she wants him to hand over the other Hearts. If we weren’t going to comply with her plan, she was going to do it herself. I must admit that in her place, I would probably do the same.
She even promised to help out again with freeing the knights, but was adamant about performing the ritual herself, now that we had proven to be untrustworthy in her eyes. Luke refused. I know he contemplated it, I know his loyalties are torn, and I know he always stands by his friends. So he refused. Anaya, angered, promised that she would come for the stones at the worst possible moment, and then sent him back to Arca Valon.
