It rings a bell; I think I have read something about it, although it was couched as fiction. It was a kind a vampire saturnalia? A celebration of the love of blood? I'll try to find the book I read it in; I think it is here in my apartment, not at work.

OK, I found what I was thinking of. It’s from an 1899 novel that was a knockoff of "Carmilla" that is basically a Victorian version of "Interview with the Vampire". It was published in Paris, and then banned for being too salacious.
Anyway, it mentions Sanguinalia as a kind of "Blood Orgy" celebrating the vampire lifestyle; it was also known as The Crimson Carnival. Some of the details were definitely stolen from the Marquis de Sade - um, don't read anything he wrote until you are older. In the book, it wasn't an annual celebration; a leader of the vampires in Paris announced the Sanguinalia to mark his reign, predict prosperity maybe? The novel is a bit vague; the author spent two lines on the politics, and two chapters describing the event itself, which is pretty much body horror erotica, where the vampires keep crying out "Pour l'amour du sang", which means "For the love of blood".
This is a fictional story of course, but maybe the author heard about something real that inspired it? It does not sound like a safe thing to look into, though; you should probably give it a wide berth. The humans in the story did not survive the Sanguinalia.
Skin crawling. Love this article as always!

Thanks! I’m planning to expand it before the event ends; hopefully Wilma and her friends survive whatever they choose to do!
Oooh! Make sure to send out an update notification if you do, I'm excited to read it.
