Selebor (selly-BOHR)

The city of love

The ducal city of Selebor in the duchy of Selbia is a port built over the delta of the river Sele. A riverboat is the quickest way to travel, and sometimes the only way to reach certain buildings. The city is also the birthplace of Pre-Romanticism. Combined with the stunning backdrop of the Lord's Canal and the erotic offerings of the Temple of Brevus, Selebor is known as the city of love.

Points of interest

Selebor Castle

Built by the first duke of Selbia, Selebor Castle spans the width of the River Sele, forming both a bridge and a defensive wall. Every Wednesday, the Selebor River Market gathers around its base where you can find anything, from fresh fish to rare antiquities.

The Lord’s Canal

Every day, hundreds of couples on their romantic holidays will take a photograph of themselves near the Lord's Canal, making it one of the most photographed places in Favont. The Artists Association has a permanent booth for this purpose.

Temple of Brevus, Selebor

Every year on the 21st of Brever, this island Temple in the Sele plays host to thousands of pilgrims who come to enjoy their sanctified pleasures.

Esoter College, Selebor

Esoter College, Selebor, was the birthplace of Pre-Romanticism, the art movement that idealised the past. After art collector Lord Kexby heavily funded the college, thousands of aspiring artists moved to the city. It is still considered one of the top art colleges in the country.

Tourism

Eldric Gaston, an Etoron writer who spent ten years living in Selebor, famously said this of tourists visiting the city.

Selebor is considered the ideal getaway for couples, and the worst for the freshly single...

As a resident, you will witness daily vicious arguments, excessive displays of affection, and people sitting alone, weeping while clutching flowers.

— Eldric Gaston

Architecture

Selebor architecture is designed to reflect the wealth of the original building commissioners and their access to rare foreign goods. The buildings on the Lord's Canal are considered the archetype of Seleborian architecture, featuring decorative paintings and gilt highlights.

Geography

Selebor sits on a delta formed by the River Sele. All 63 islands in the delta have been fortified to protect from the changing flow of the river, and are linked with bridges and platforms. Though there are roads in Selebor, most traffic is via water.

Further inland, canals were created to reduce the force of the river. These quiet waters, where boats had to move sedately through the dense city landscape, were greatly inspiring to visiting artists.

Climate

Selebor is famous for its fog. It is thick and appears rapidly and without warning, often causing chaos in the streets.

The locals say 'Only fools love through the fog,' especially concerning unwise obsessions or couplings.

In summer, the city is very hot, with the only respite being to take a swim in the Sele. In winter, it rains almost constantly.

For a moment, I thought the heraldry of the city was an ice cream cone and I was hear for it. XD XD   My favourite bits are the quote about being 'freshly single' in the city, and the fog.

Ha! You've now got me thinking about places I could genuinely use an ice cream cone as heraldry! I smell an ice cream parlour coming alone
