Starseed Vessels
Starseed vessels are considered to be the most unique type of starship in the entire galaxy of Kantostara because they are not manufactured. They are cultivated. Not simply machines, but a fusion of mechanical structure and living organism. No two look exactly alike and each has their own distinct personality.
Over time, this tendency evolved into a remarkable capacity to integrate with almost any stable structure which makes it possible for starseeds to easily adapt to a fusion with specially prepared mineral starship skeletons. Their living fibers gradually weave around every bit of the framework until there is no distinction between the mechanism and the organism. The mature vessel grows to function as hull, structural support, radiation shield, navigation system, and life-support system. As a living entity, the starseed vessel also serves as a companion, once they have bonded with a pilot.
Seasoned starseed pilot's describe the experience of flying one of these vessels as feeling less like steering and more like dancing with a partner whose every step is as familiar as your own.
When a bonded pilot dies, their starseed vessel enters a period of mourning known as the bloom of farewell because their hull begins to blossom and release crystalline seeds that drift out into space. Some say these seeds carry blessings, while others say they carry fragments of memories of the shared experiences of pilot and vessel. Many believe these seeds eventually germinate and grow into new starseed vessels already inclined toward the virtues of the pilot they once accompanied.
Cultivation
As the name suggests, starseed vessels are grown from starseeds which is one of the rarest varieties of driftvine, a species of space dwelling flora. Starseeds naturally have a habit of weaving themselves into drifting mineral formations in space.Over time, this tendency evolved into a remarkable capacity to integrate with almost any stable structure which makes it possible for starseeds to easily adapt to a fusion with specially prepared mineral starship skeletons. The Bond
Starseed vessels represent one of the greatest examples of inter-species partnership. A pilot can't simply purchase a starseed vessel because starseeds don't just accept every pilot. The relationship is not one of control, but rather companionship, so there must be a feeling of mutual compatibility. Once that has been established, the bonding process begins with fine luminous rootlets gently spreading across the pilot's skin, sensing heartbeat, breathing, hormone levels, muscular movements, and the subtle electrical music of the nervous system.Seasoned starseed pilot's describe the experience of flying one of these vessels as feeling less like steering and more like dancing with a partner whose every step is as familiar as your own.
