Typhon

Typhon is a crater lake that is so heavily salinated that no one can breech its surface. It is home to a sunken city.

“What happened to Typhon?”

“We don’t know. One minute it was there, and the next minute, it was gone. No one remembers Typhon before what it is now."
— Lilah and Maximilian, Vegoia's Throne
Before the Disaster

Typhon was the pride of the Tageacna family. Using technology they claimed to discover in the Temple of Aran, it was once the crown jewel of the Crater States as well. Prior to the expansion of Tegas Eisar, Typhon was the planned community made for the workers of L.U.N.E.D.

To boast their claim to ancient Tellurian technology and the origins of Exomancy, LUNED created a pressurized, underwater city which also attracted many investors from S.A.D.R.E.S to invest in LUNED's expansion to Penumbria. LUNED, after all, desires to achieve the success of SADRES but on their own terms.

Typhon was seen as many things. A technological marvel, an emergent culture, experimenting with the limitations of Tellurian capabilities and expanding the collective consciousness.

The Salt Leak

No one knows what caused the event known as "the salt leak", though even that name is almost lost to time. What resulted, however, is a series of catastrophic implosions in caused by oversalination of the water.

Some say it was a mix of saltwater and chlorine, this is known as "Aran's Origin Theory". This theory purports thatthe leak came from the Temple of Aran. No one has managed to find this supposed leak, because such a thing would likely collapsed the temple's tunnels as well.

Either way, something got in the water and tore through parts of the otherwise idyllic commuter nation of Typhon. To this day, there are conflicting stories on what happened to the people of Typhon. Some claim they became part of the Briar Wall, others believe there might still be people alive down there... but for the most part, it is simply known as "The Typhon Disaster" and treated as a natural disaster.

Post-Disaster Fallout

Extreme propaganda campaigns and government intervention were required in the wake of this event, as LUNED was excused of profiting off of extreme tourism with their increasingly risky crater state plans. This led to LUNED losing significant influence and the Nth Triumvirate to be formed.

This put many families of the Penumbrian Circle at edge with one another -- on one side, the Carnovia, Vikaeris, and Caeleas families, who favor less intervention from LUNED. On another side, the Tageacna, Selvanos, and Tellula families whose predecessors bet everything on LUNED's survival.

...but what is actually going on in Typhon?

If there were people there, it wouldn't be safe to contact them - considering, who knows what they know. This is the final roadblock that stops any conspiracy theorists from going too far in their investigations, because the fragments of lore that survive if one dives deep enough paint a very macabre picture.
