Learned, Inherent, or Inherent-Learned?

It is mostly learned through magitech such as the Hand of Glory, or using an Exo ray gun, as people aren’t inherently capable of using it. The only inherent aspect is that some people with slitted eyes can use it without technology, though this seems to be limited to the Dusios, Umbrians, and Nachmara - surface dwelling people can’t see it because they’re used to the exosphere

What Actuates the Effect?

You first have to be able to detect it - that requires that you have some kind of sight or equipment that can access Infrared level detection. This is something the seven eyed people can use without technology, as their eyes can detect infrared and ultraviolet.

To detect spectroscopy must be used in the Detection range, which includes Radio (vibrations), Micro (temperature, movement) or Infrared (full spectrum temperature). The faster the waves, the more can be picked up and detected, but the more energy it takes. If the person doesn’t have the right eyes, they might have sensors in their hands that can aid in detection. However the majority of users have equipment such as goggles, visual metres, or accessories that detect them.

To utilize the magic, you must also use spectroscopy. This requires technology though some Dusios, Umbrians, or Nachmara seem to be able to use it on their own. Antumbrians can use offensive exomancy but can’t detect it so they are essentially berserkers.

In order to transfer the output the energy, it must be channeled through either the visible spectrum (it is visible but cannot penetrate the skin barrier), ultra violet (it can penetrate the skin barrier), x ray (it can penetrate bone), or gamma (it can penetrate dna). The more extensive and higher the waves, the more energy it takes and the harder it is to control. This is almost always done using an external weapon such as the Hand of Glory or an exo ray gun. Some Dusios have more primitive looking tools that look like augury rods that are capable of reaching gamma precision and strength.

Very few species are made to withstand exomancy, particularly in offensive positions. There is very often recoil, and it can blind, burn, or completely destroy and reshape the user if not sufficient. It bears similar danger to using electricity or firearms improperly. It is reserved primarily to the military because of this, though in places like Caloris, it’s completely unregulated.

What is the Source?

The source is the planet’s exosphere.

Does it Require a Reagent?

It requires transmutation/transmission through a spectroscopic device that acts as a medium to be used or controlled, with some very rare exceptions.

Spontaneous, or Prepared?

It requires preparation for the equipment, but once the user is properly equipped the exomancy can be used spontaneously.

How Common Is This Magic in Society?

SADRES - Outlawed everywhere but LUNED bases

LUNED stations - Military use only, need permit

Antumbria - Everyone sort of uses it but very poor control/regulation

Penumbria - Military and professional use only, more lax than LUNED but more regulation than Antumbria

Umbria - Cannot really be used underground, however, Umbrians sense it better than surface dwellers

Users Tend to Be ...

They’re almost always in the military or some sort of government position where they have earned a permit to utilize it. Repairs tothe Watchers, for example, are done with the help of exomancy, and it is used for neutralizing beasts. In Penumbria, you might see tradespeople using it with apermit, as well as many illegal uses as well.

Are There Limiting Factors?

Some people are better built to handle the radiation and recoil, particularly cybernetic enhancements or being made of silica helps.

What are the Social Implications of Your Magic?

It’s considered very dangerous pretty much everywhere and a sign of oppressive power over the elements and people, though in parts of Penumbria it is seen more sympathetically as a necessary technology. The Liugures’ ability to detect it more naturally allowed for this.
