Goblins

Goblins were once immortal fae creatures of the Unseelie Court until a leader rose among them to take destiny into their own hands but at the cost of leaving their immortality behind. Whether this exchange was beneficial remains to be seen. In the prime material world, goblins fell into their servant ways by following those that are stronger than them. They will follow strong leaders regardless of origin for the promise of greatness. While small and weak in stature, goblins make up for this in greater numbers. Since they are so numerous goblins have expanded their territory into many biomes and where they are not beaten back by stronger species, they thrive in the lands that others find unhabitable.
Forest goblins, for example, are quite common in forests throughout Necessa and clash with the elves that reside there. They are green in complexion and are known for their aptitude for magic. Jungle Goblins which are reddish or orange in hue are known for their feral savagery and fierce defense of their jungle homelands. Not all goblins thrive in conflict. Those goblins retreated to the swamplands that others dared not go to be left alone. These swamp goblins are known for their strong resistance to toxins that would lay other creatures low. The most fanatical of all the species, cave goblins live underground or in mountain ranges much to the annoyance of other inhabitants. During the Onyx Rose War goblins were following the orc warlords which were drafted by necromancers as chaff and shock troops. When the orcs laid down their weapons, the goblins followed their lead and disbanded. After the shattering of Necessa goblins finally found the peace and isolation that they had been searching for. Without the pressure of the need to expand, they were able to lift up as a species. Now they are equal to other civilized species and can even be found in all major cities like Janus.
  Goblin Culture
Goblins retain their selfish nature from their unseelie origins. This mixed with their short lifespans and their need for expansion due to their vast numbers creates friction among their species and others. Historically, this has put them at odds with others. Despotic leaders have also led them into trouble in the past. Without these pressures goblins are content to live in their chosen climate and take up various pursuits. Their knowledge of flora and fauna is second to none, and they use that for powerful alchemy unlike that of other practitioners.
  Forest Goblins
The first among the goblin habitats to be settled was in the forests around Mythwood and those of the elves. This brought them often into conflict with one another regardless of their mutual fae ancestries. Forest Goblins are known for their animal husbandry skills and use giant spiders and worgs to supplement their numbers in battle.
Greens of all hues are the complexion of forest goblins. They wear their hair longer and braid it with charms and trinkets. These trinkets are believed to offer them favorable fortunes or might. Forest goblins have held onto many of the fae traditions that came from their ancestors. They share this with the elves of the region and in times of peace you can even see the two celebrating together.
  Jungle Goblins
Further expansion of the goblins into Necessa brought them to the jungle regions. These jungle goblins found little competition among other humanoid species in the jungle, so they built vast structures and are fiercely protective of them. With their time in the environment, the jungle goblins have become very adept at traversing the terrain. They use their often-superior numbers to lie in wait and ambush those that dare trespass into their lands.
Jungle goblin skin is red or rust orange in color. Their eye color ranges from red, yellow, or even black. They dress lightly to avoid the sticky wet heat of the jungle. This style is brought with them even in other environments. The goblins of the jungles created new traditions in their new homelands. These festivals and cultural traditions are unique to them.
  Swamp Goblins
Those that didn’t want to fight for their territory went out in search of new lands and found themselves a nice piece of swampland so that others would leave them alone. This isolationism has stayed with them all the way to modern times. Swamp goblins will accept others that seek the same peace that they sought when settling the swamps. While hostile to most other life, the swamp goblins natural toxin resistance offers them a boon in dealing with the other nature in the region. Goblins of the swamps are the best alchemists in the world and have access to unique ingredients found in their hostile environment. This gives them desirable goods to trade with others, so traveling goblin merchants can be found in most major cities peddling their wares. Always looking for an advantage makes them shrewd traders.
Swamp goblin skin ranges from yellow to ochre in color. Their hair styles vary greatly, but the color tends to be jet black. Their form of attire is a mixture of their fae origins and lighter clothes to stay comfortable in the sticky wet heat of the swamps.
  Cave Goblins
During the third wave of expansion of the goblins, they settled in the caves underground and those of the mountains. This brought them into clashes with the dwarves that reside in the mountains. They had fierce competition for resources and caused many battles among the two. This got the attention of the mountain orcs that also lived in the region, and they found they could bully them into service against their foes. Cave goblins fiercely loyal to their ideals and can be hard to sway when they have their mind set on something. Cave goblins are the most religious of the species and abandoned most of their fae heritage for these new beliefs and put them at odds with even other members of their species.
Gangly and dressed in dark robes, cave goblins are pale grey or purple in color with eye colors that are red, yellow, or even black. Their robes signify their religious allegiance or caste. They dress for the damp cold of the caves they reside in but will adapt when traveling to other regions.
