Giantkin
Giants once had sprawling kingdoms across the lands. Eventually their expansionism brought them head-to-head against the dragon empire. They conducted a vast war amongst themselves and the species they had under their control. This war locked the two nations into a conflict of mutual destruction. While the dragons eventually disappeared and the rise of the dragonfolk came, giants found themselves cursed and each subsequent generation found their stature smaller until they were barely taller than the mortals they once ruled. The giants also lost much of their magical prowess unable to use their creation magics that they wielded in the past.
These new giants were labeled giantkin and settled among the fallen kingdoms. Their proximity to their parents offered them no reprieve from the giant’s former subjects. They fought off and on through the years until the world shattered. With the calamity, once bitter foes found themselves allies in the battle to survive in the new landscape. No one was better suited to survive the circumstances was the giantkin.
Giantkin Culture
Giantkin culture originates from their giant heritage with some key differences. For example, the Ordning the strict ranking that giants revere is not observed in giantkin culture. This has been replaced with a structure of merit where you are ranked on what you contribute to the tribe rather than some pre-ordained order. This promotes competitiveness and they view everything as a challenge or test to be overcome. Giantkin have little time for cheaters, gloaters, or sore losers. While giantkin respect the elder giant species the feeling is not returned by the giants. Giants view giantkin as inferiors in every way and will fight to the death to keep their heritage from the giantkin. Only a few remember the fight to liberate from the giant kingdoms so view giantkin as favorable as any other. Only longer-lived species were closer to the conflict remember what it was like to live under oppression.
Each sublineage lives a bit differently from the others. They gather once a decade to compete in games to see who among the tribes speak for the whole. Tribes are largely independent, but they do band together for greater threats and will use the competition to judge which tribe should lead the collective.

Naming Traditions
Every Giantkin has three names: a birth name assigned by the newborn’s mother and father, a nickname assigned by the tribal chief, and a family or clan name. A birth name is up to three syllables long. Clan names are five syllables or more and end in a vowel.
Birth names are rarely linked to gender. Giantkin see females and males as equal in all things, and they find societies with roles divided by gender to be puzzling or worthy of mockery. To a Giantkin, the person who is best at a job should be the one tasked with doing it.
A Giantkin’s nickname is a description that can change on the whim of a chieftain or tribal elder. It refers to a notable deed, either a success or failure, committed by the Giantkin. Giantkin assign and use nicknames with their friends of other races, and change them to refer to an individual’s notable deeds.
Giantkin present all three names when identifying themselves, in the order of birth name, nickname, and clan name. In casual conversation, they use their nickname.
